Just when you think European League of Legends cannot get any more dramatic, G2 Esports comes along and completely flips the script. In a move that has left the entire community double-checking the date to make sure it is not April Fools’ Day, G2 announced they are benching their long-time head coach, Dylan Falco.

G2 wrote on X: “Despite not being on the active roster, Dylan is still part of G2. A proper goodbye video will be posted when he officially leaves.”

The shockwave hits right after G2 got knocked out of the Mid-Season Invitational by the North American squad LYON. To make things even wilder, the guy stepping into the head coach seat is none other than the legendary former G2 midlaner and self-proclaimed role-swap merchant, Luka “Perkz” Perković.

Moving a Coaching Legend to the Bench

To say fans are losing their minds would be a massive understatement. Dylan Falco has been the tactical brain behind G2 for nearly five years, steering the team to an incredible eleven LEC trophies. He literally signed a contract extension through 2027 just a few months ago, making this sudden sideline feel like a total gut punch to the fandom.

Fans are voicing a lot of frustration online because replacing one of the most consistent, decorated western coaches in history with a guy who has virtually zero head-coaching experience feels like a massive, unnecessary gamble.

“Why is the best coach getting benched?” responded an alarmed fan.

Added another: “This is the dumbest f***ing thing I have seen on my timeline in maybe 3+ years.”

NAVI put it more simply: “What.”

The Perkz Experiment Begins Immediately

Perkz is undeniably one of the greatest players Europe has ever produced, but coaching a elite team is a completely different beast than playing on the stage. He only rejoined G2 a few weeks ago as a positional coach, and now he is suddenly running the entire show.

The timing is incredibly frantic too. Perkz is slated to make his official head-coaching debut at the Esports World Cup on July 15, giving him almost no time to settle into the role. Some fans are hoping his legendary leadership and deep chemistry with midlaner Caps will spark a miracle, while others are convinced this is a recipe for absolute disaster.

One thing is for certain: watching G2 has become mandatory viewing, even if only to see if this wild experiment actually works.
