G2’s scrim results are back, and it turns out they had Gen.G’s number

It’s that seasonal time of year again, where G2 Esports go to an international event and tell the world about their scrim results. Often, it shows how G2 is somewhat managing to compete with the world during scrims, the time it gets to practice against opposing teams.

What’s very interesting is that G2 Esports had some extremely impressive numbers versus Gen.G. Last week, G2 Esports 3-0’d Gen.G live on stage in the semi-finals of First Stand. Given that Gen.G has only lost two games this entire year prior to that match, it’s actually an incredible feat of strength for G2 – and shows that Gen.G choked a little once again.

G2 scrim results reveal that Gen.G did not put up much of a fight

But, it turns out that result is not even that uncharacteristic.

The scrim results posted by Romain detail that G2 went 3-1 against Gen.G in scrims. That’s rather impressive: G2 just straight-out counter Gen.G. Throw on top the 3-0, and they also 3-0’d FearX despite not scrimming them. That’s 9-1 against LCK at First Stand, whether that’s on stage and in scrims.

Rasmus “Caps” Winther even came on stage after the FearX game to do an interview with the English stream. In reference to a joke about 3-0’ing Gen.G and what to watch for, Caps chose to talk about the main point being about watching their early game, especially around mid lane. If they can do okay, then it’s a good series.

It appears he was giving a little hint of what could come. Clearly, G2’s winning record in scrims gave them valuable feedback against Gen.G and what can happen if they get ahead in Gen.G fashion, and what can happen if G2 doesn’t give them an inch to take a mile.

Both G2 and BLG look like they learned from each other

The other interesting thing is the performance against Bilibili Gaming. The G2 lads 2-1’d BLG in scrims, several days after the 3-0 defeat to them in Round 2. Yet, G2 could only manage to win 1 game and lost 6 to BLG on stage. Finding that consistency against the best teams and then implementing on stage seems like the next step for G2 to really climb up there.

Caps did mention there’s a joke about them being goldfish on stage, just forgetting valuable lessons learned at international events. Clearly, going from looking dreadful in the 3-0 loss to BLG in Round 2 of the tournament to then looking much stronger against Korea, and having a strong Game 1 against BLG, and a pretty close Game 4 says that the goldfish era is coming to an end.

Watch them go and troll Spring Split now.
