How To Unlock the Alpaca Mount in FFXIV

For the release of FFXIV: Dawntrail, a new Alpaca mount was added to the game. The Alpacas take up a pretty good amount of screen time in the new expansion, and so it’s only natural that Final Fantasy XIV would add an Alpaca mount.

But how exactly do you get this fluffy friend to add to your mount collection? Well, unfortunately, it’s not a short process, but it’s also not too difficult either. Here’s how to unlock the Alpaca mount in FFXIV.

How To Get the Alpaca Mount in Final Fantasy XIV

The Alpaca mount is first teased right in the first city of Dawntrail, but unfortunately, it’s going to be a while before you can call upon this mount for yourself. That’s because the only way to unlock this mount is to complete the entirety of the Dawntrail 7.0 Main Scenario Quests (MSQ).

You’ll then receive your Alpaca mount as a reward for completing the final quest of the expansion so far, titled “Dawntrail.” That means a few hundred hours of play time!

So if you haven’t already, it’s time to download the latest Dawntrail patch and start playing the MSQ and unlock your own Alpaca mount.

What’s With the Alpacas in FFXIV Dawntrail?

There’s a pretty heavy emphasis on Alpacas in FFXIV Dawntrail. The creatures have become the default riding animals, replacing Chocobos and Amaros. Instead, you’ll find yourself riding these creatures if you choose to use the Alpaca Porters. This is also a good way to mount up on an Alpaca early!

Alpacas also have a lot of story significance, as you’ll find as you play. And Alpacas also feature as enemies and creatures you’ll need to extract items from. Overall, the Alpaca plays a big role in Dawntrail, so get used to seeing them all over the game!
