Arrowhead Studios: Helldivers Developer Has a New CEO

It has just been revealed on social media that Arrowhead Studios, the developer behind Helldivers 2, has appointed a new CEO. This decision was made by the former CEO, Johan Pilestedt, who has been vocal and very visible on social media since the release of Helldivers 2 in February. Stepping into the CEO role will be Shams Jorjani, who Pilestedt said has ‘an impressive resume and love for games.’

In the meantime, Pilestedt will assume the role of Chief Creative Officer, a role that he says will allow him to spend more time with the team at Arrowhead Studios. Despite being released almost four months ago, Helldivers 2 remains remarkably popular. It has been a solid shooter since it was released, offering unparalleled cooperative gameplay potential that was a smash hit with both the streaming and gaming communities.

Here’s the full statement from Johan Pilestedt on Twitter (sorry, X):

Big update, I’ve decided to hire @ShamsJorjani as the new CEO of @ArrowheadGS! We go way back and I wouldn’t trust the business in any other hands than his. (…and he comes with an impressive resume and love for games). But what about me and my involvement in @Helldivers2? Well, I’m glad you asked! I am taking the role of Chief Creative Officer, which means I will spend MORE time with the team and 100% of my focus on the games and community!’

Fans were quick to highlight that Shams Jorjani has a huge pair of shoes to fill at Arrowhead Studios. Helldivers 2 maintained such a positive social image because of Pilestedt’s direct line with the community. He was always transparent, self-aware, and considerate on social media, interacting with end users as readily as a community manager would – despite being Chief Executive Officer of the firm.

It’s not expected that this monumental shift will have a lasting impact on the overall development of Helldivers 2. This news comes following a blip that saw Helldivers 2 reviewed bombed on Steam, thanks to a change in operating model from Sony that effectively forced players to make a PSN account to play the game online on PC. Those issues were ironed out, though.
