18 Best Action Games on PS5 You Need to Play

Lost in Random

A lot of the praise for Zoink Games’s latest Lost in Random game goes to its unique yet familiar world of Random. The artwork and the way the characters are designed make them both interesting and lovable. The game works by giving you random cards where you have to make the most of your draw. This ‘infinite’ loop makes the gaming experience enjoyable throughout the whole adventure. While there are a few hiccups, the many positives make these problems less noticeable.

Judgment

Even though Lost Judgment just came out, we still think that the original Judgment is a better game. The plot in Judgment is much better and the many plot twists seem more personal and natural than those in the sequel. The game is designed so you focus on detecting and investigating, so you won’t be doing much punching in the face.

It Takes Two

Hazelight Studios has earned a reputation for making engaging co-op games and It Takes Two takes that even further. You have to work together with your co-op partner to time your actions and strategies as you move through the game’s tougher stages. The developers change up the obstacles as you go to avoid boredom and everything is wrapped up by a simple but enjoyable story about teamwork which makes it one of the best action games for PS5.

Subnautica: Below Zero

Very few survival games pull off an interesting gameplay loop and great story the way Below Zero does. In the second game, you return to planet 4546B and have the chance to explore a completely new Arctic area teeming with unusual alien life. Below Zero follows the same pattern of looking around, gathering resources and unlocking more areas with them, while providing numerous QoL (Quality of Life) improvements as compared to the original Subnautica.

Deathloop

Deathloop was made by Arkane Studios, who used the lessons from their earlier games to make a fantastic time-looping shooter. Your goal in the game is to eliminate eight targets before the day is over, though doing so requires you to think ahead and practice a lot. The game does give you plenty of freedom with how you want to handle the eliminations, so it comes down to a combination of trial-and-error and your personal preferences.

Grand Theft Auto 5

Despite being 12 years old in 2025, Grand Theft Auto 5 remains one of the greatest open-world action games available. The PS5 version came in 2022 and featured many performance and graphical improvements as compared to the Legacy version.

In Los Santos, Rockstar has created an endless variety of things to do and has hidden many secrets that make living there a real pleasure. There’s also the main campaign which follows you through more and more intense heists and firefights. The graphics might be a little old compared to newer games, but the way you play is still timeless. Keep in mind that you can’t use regular cheat codes in GTA Online so you may have to change your playstyle as opposed to how you play in Singleplayer.

Ghostwire Tokyo

While Ghostwire Tokyo didn’t quite meet all its expectations, it still offers a lot to players. Looking at the quiet city streets of Tokyo is an interesting difference from the busy game worlds we see today and we like how you can string spells together to fight off enemies. Sure, there are some bugs, but if you stick with it, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

God of War Ragnarok

Ragnarok follows the Norse Saga which launched in 2022 and it is a huge and exciting conclusion. The game skillfully uses the basics of the previous title to create a combat system with plenty of depth for one player. There are plenty of plot twists, and while the story isn’t as detailed or refined as the 2018 game, it still reels you in and makes you feel what Kratos feels. Ragnarok has a lot going for it, and in our opinion, it’s one of the best action games for PS5 we’ve seen in recent times.

Aragami 2

Although there weren’t many stealth games in 2019, the original Aragami was a strong one and the sequel from 2021, Aragami 2, takes what the first game did well and turns it up a notch. In Aragami 2, you can go up against enemies in a fresh combat system, there are new and exciting mission objectives and you can do it all with a friend using co-op, which is sure to delight stealth game fans.

Control

Control shows off Remedy Entertainment’s main strengths: its exciting third-person action, an intriguing narrative and impressive artwork. Jesse Faden’s journey to lead the FBC and discover the truth about Dylan is an exciting one, and you can finish it off with impressive firefights using many weapons. Purchasing the Ultimate Edition includes both the base game and the two post-release expansions, so make sure to grab it if you want the full experience.

Evil West

Flying Wild Hog, which made Shadow Warrior, gave players an unusual mix of a Wild West theme and supernatural creatures in Evil West. The game is extremely creative with its approach, and the weapons, characters and in-game universe are all very unique. The game is bloody, gritty, and scary, which complements the explosive gameplay perfectly. It may not be for everyone, but why not give it a chance?

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Kena: Bridge of Spirits from Ember Labs is a game that is beautiful and follows Kena as she guides spirits across a spiritual bridge. It manages to discuss regret and guilt in an unexpectedly clear and effective manner. Kena uses her tools and weapons to fight enemies in the game, but what makes it fun are the impressive bosses and the game’s gorgeous art.

No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky was not off to a good start, but improvements from the tons of updates since 2016 have improved the game a lot. Currently, No Man’s Sky is among the best PS5 action games around and the best part is its procedural planet system makes sure you come across new things every time. There is a lot to do, so you’ll have plenty to keep you busy for a long time. The game features a couple of main quests (that are quite long), lots of secondary quests, but above all, you, the player, make the journey. The open world is the largest of all games, with multiple quintillion planets available to land on.

Like a Dragon: Ishin

The original Like a Dragon: Ishin was on the PS3 and was somewhat overlooked, but the newer remake makes it accessible to many more players. A lot of the visual and gameplay updates bring this game up to date, and the feudal Japan setting offers a nice change from exploring crowded cityscapes in Yakuza’s main titles.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Even though Square Enix failed with Marvel’s Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy managed to become a huge hit. This game tells a straightforward story about a team of outsiders teaming up, and the decisions you make affect your adventure in interesting ways. On top of that, the combat system is nothing to snuff at either, featuring multiple characters that are part of your team, various weapons and abilities, and more. The game doesn’t excel in any particular category but it does do a good enough job to keep it fun.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut

Our hero Jin Sakai fights a tough battle to remove the Mongol invaders from Tsushima. The story is filled with intense fights and dramatic duels that’ll keep you on your toes.
