The Tetris trance is something that many people who play the game a lot can tell you about. It’s that zen like state as you set up for that four-line clear. And the calm that comes from lining up Tetris after Tetris and clearing a huge board. To go all in on the visuals and that zen like flow, one of the newest entries in the series – Tetris Effect, is our game of choice. It’s not strictly casual, featuring competitive versus gameplay. However the main draw of the game is its jaw-dropping visuals while you climb the levels, and the EDM and trance inspired music.

Many Tetris games in the modern era have multiplayer. Usually this can be both as a local head-to-head mode, but also commonly with online play. The game that takes this to the fullest is Tetris 99. With its take on the popular battle royale genre, you and up to 98 other players duke it out in battle Tetris, sending completed lines to other players, as you compete to be the last one standing.
Another very popular multiplayer Tetris is Puyo Puyo Tetris, which combines the Puyo Puyo gameplay with Tetris. Be warned though, right now the Puyo Puyo meta is much faster than Tetris, so you’ll want be be familiar with both styles, especially Puyo Puyo, if you want to stand your ground online.
The peak of the head to head Tetris right now is played on the NES version of Tetris. The Tetris championships are played every year on this classic version of the game, with scores that regularly climb into the millions as players aim to gain the most points before topping out.
The best way to play Tetris on the Go is pretty varied now. Both Android and iOS have official free Tetris apps to play on your phone or tablet. But with portable consoles like the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and other portables, console Tetris can also be played anywhere and everywhere. And if you don’t have access to any of those, you can even just play in browser!
