Civilization fans can rejoice as a brand-new Civ game is just around the corner, and it’s a lot closer than we think. Eight years after the release of Civilization VI (Civ 6), fans have been treated to a trailer, gameplay, release date, and more at the latest Gamescom. Game of Thrones fans should stay tuned to see who narrates this next Civ franchise installment.
Civilization VII (Civ7) will be released on February 11, 2025, on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Mac. Yes, that’s right—for the first time in the franchise’s history, we’ll see a multi-platform release on the same date. Firaxis Games is operating on the same announcement-to-release timeframe as Civ 6, with roughly five months between the announcement trailer and the initial release.
Civ 7 is now available for preorder at the Steam store. The base game will set you back $69.99. Two other editions are available at launch: the Deluxe edition and the Founders Edition, costing considerably more. Players who purchase the Deluxe or Founder editions will gain early access from February 6, five days before players who buy the standard edition.
Winter is coming… Firaxis Games revealed twenty-five minutes worth of gameplay in their gameplay showcase. Along with that, we know who will be narrating the game. The Civ franchise has a long-standing history of bringing famous actors to narrate the game. This installment is no different, with English actor Gwendoline Christie tasked with bringing history to life. Christie is known for playing Brienne of Tarth in the Game of Thrones Franchise. The actress also appeared in Star Wars and the Netflix series Wednesday, amongst other films and TV series.
This isn’t the first time a GoT cast member has been used to narrate a Civilization game. Sean Bean, who played Lord Eddard Stark, was brought in to narrate Civ 6.
