Concord Beta Is Launching July 12 in Early Access
Last month, Firewalk Studios and PlayStation unveiled gameplay footage of Concord, an all-new FPS coming in August 2024. In the reveal trailer for the game, we were treated to a CGI-powered introduction of the core characters in a segment that looked like something pulled from Guardians of the Galaxy. Then, we got a closer look at some Concord gameplay, at which point it became clear that it’s a hero shooter looking to steal the top spot from Overwatch 2.
Recently, Firewalk Studios revealed the dates for the upcoming beta phase of Concord. It’ll be split into two ‘stages’, with the early access weekend (exclusively for pre-order customers) landing between July 12 and 14. Then, from July 18 – 21, the open beta weekend will be deployed on PS5 and PC.
Concord Beta Details Confirmed
During the beta phase for Concord, users will be able to access the full launch roster that’s lined up for the game. In Concord, the characters (or combatants) are known as Freegunners, and each one has unique elements and even more individual appearances. Concord has been revealed as a highly agile and versatile game, boasting intense traversal mechanics and fluid combat sequences that make for some high-octane fights.
In the beta, players will be invited to play four maps:
- Freewater – A fortified outpost set on the ‘sun-scorched planet of Glance’
- Water Hazard – A water-covered planet with a haphazard weather system
- Star Chamber – A map on top of a gargantuan mountain in an ancient observatory
- Shock Risk – A multi-arena map with lightning-based threats
When the open beta rolls around, a fifth map will be introduced to the pool:
- Bone Mines – A network of caverns and caves on the planet Akkar
It was confirmed by Firewalk that the Concord beta will feature four core modes:
- Trophy Hunt – Kill enemies and collect their bounty cards (respawns)
- Cargo Run – Retrieve the ‘Blue Buddy’ robot package and plant it to win (no respawns)
- Clash Point – Control a single capture zone, defending it from your opponents (no respawns)
- Area Control – Control multiple capture points around the map (respawns)
It’s a plethora of modes and maps, but so far, what we’ve seen takes a lot from other games. For instance, those game modes are stock-standard modes seen in other, competing titles, like Call of Duty. For every mode in Concord, there’s an alternative in Call of Duty, XDefiant, or Overwatch 2. It’s tough to be original, and the thing to consider here is how unique the modes might feel when played on Concord’s platform. That could be the game-changer.
