Everything Coming in Minecraft’s Winter Drop Update

Up next for Minecraft is the Winter Drop Update, which is the next significant update to the game. Mojang has said they’re not going to do major, semi-annual updates anymore. Instead, they’re going to have slightly smaller updates more frequently to keep the game fresh. The Winter Drop Update is coming soon, and while it’s not going to be as massive as. the Caves & Cliffs Update or the Nether Update, it does have a lot to look forward to.

What’s in Minecraft Winter Drop Update?

Mojang revealed what the Winter Drop Update to Minecraft would entail during an October live stream. It also showed off the Bundles of Bravery event, but the Winter Drop items were immediate fan favorites. The first and perhaps most interesting addition is the new biome: the Pale Garden. This is a new forest variation, one that’s designed to be a little bit on the creepy side. With it comes a new tree, the Pale Oak. All wood items will now be available from Pale Oak wood, too. Pale Hanging Moss is also a new addition thanks to this biome.

In the Pale Garden is a brand new mob: The Creaking. Several Minecraft mobs have been scary at times, but this one may be the most frightening one yet. It comes from the Creaking Heart, which is made of the new wood. This item projects the Creaking, which cannot be attacked physically by the player. The only way to destroy it is by destroying the heart. The Creaking will also move around only when it’s not being looked directly at. Players can freeze it by looking, but it adds to the horror that it moves when unseen.

Then there’s Resin Blocks which were only introduced later on Oct. 23. The Resin Blocks in Minecraft are one of the first new armor trims and have a unique way of being harvest from the Pale Garden.

When is the New Update?

There is not currently a set date for the Winter Drop Update. This is typical for Minecraft releases. Mojang announces an update. A while later, they set a time release frame, like summer 2025. Then, as that frame arrives, they set the official date. Right now, there is no time frame. However, since it references the winter season, this update is likely coming in a few months. It has also been called the Vanilla Holiday Update, which indicates that it will come during the December-January holiday season.
