Bethesda Game Studios first announced a next-generation update for Fallout 4 in 2022. However, once the update had been revealed, the developer went quiet on the topic – until now. It has just been revealed that Fallout 4’s highly anticipated next-gen update will be released on April 25, 2024. This was announced today, just one day after the release of the Fallout TV show, a groundbreaking series that is exceeding expectations the world over.
With the Fallout 4 next-gen update, Bethesda Game Studios hopes to entice many people back to the game. Fallout 4 was released in 2015, and it’s the best-selling game in the series thus far. It made the franchise much more accessible and ‘mainstream’, which in turn meant that millions of players found their way into Fallout for the first time. It was the perfect gateway game into the series, and next week, it’ll be made much better.

Once Bethesda Game Studios had released Starfield, resources were freed up to work on the Fallout 4 next-gen update. We’re years away from Fallout 5 – that might not surface until 2030 at least – so this is a nice boost for what many call the best game in the series. In a post on the Fallout website, Bethesda revealed that the next-gen update will be available to download for free from April 25.
Primarily, it’s an update that’ll allow Fallout 4 – the open-world apocalyptic epic – to run natively on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. It’ll get a performance mode and a quality mode, and it’ll boast a boosted stable frame rate of up to 60 FPS. Heightened resolutions are being planned for the update, and a slew of stability improvements and bug fixes will make it feel even more polished than ever before.
It’s not just for the ‘current-gen’ players, though. It was also revealed that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will get a free update including many fixes and improvements. Also, PC players will get a unique update that’ll bring ultra-widescreen support and a series of quest updates. Furthermore, Fallout 4 will finally be Steam Deck verified and it’ll be listed on the Epic Games Store for purchase.
This is nothing if not a great reason to jump back into the game and start playing around with the best Fallout 4 cheats and console commands again.
On every platform, users will get an ‘Enclave Remnants’ Creation Club bundle, which features exclusive skins, weapons, and quests. Further weapon and cosmetic packs are coming to the game with the Fallout 4 next-gen update, including a sizeable Halloween Workshop pack, which includes 38 on-theme Halloween decorations for settlement crafting.
Fans have spent a long time waiting for this update, and now that it’s finally here, they’re celebrating the return to form of one of the best post-apocalyptic games ever made.
