Fallout 76 Has a Roadmap Lasting ‘Several Years’

Speaking in a recent interview, Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard revealed that there’s an internal pipeline for Fallout 76 that has content planned out for ‘several years’. When asked about the vision for the ultimate ending of Fallout 76, Howard refused to meet the question without talking about the strength of the game, stressing that it’s more popular now than ever before and there’s ‘no end in sight’ for the game.

Fallout 76 is the live-service, MMORPG game nestled at the heart of the post-apocalyptic franchise that has been running for more than two decades. It had a rocky reception but has become something stellar, and since the successful launch of the Fallout TV show on Amazon’s Prime Video, Fallout 76 has blossomed and become monumentally popular.

Fallout 76 was released in 2018 in a relatively shambolic state, disappointing the global community and putting Bethesda Game Studios in a tough spot. However, thanks to years of dedicated work and the signing on of third-party studios, Fallout 76 was turned around, finally becoming something worth playing for both new and veteran fans of the franchise.

In April, it was reported that Fallout 76 hit one million players online in a single day.

Here’s what Todd Howard said during a recent interview with MrMattyPlays, a popular YouTuber:

‘That game has never been more popular than it is right now as we’re talking. And so, we have a great internal roadmap of things that we’re doing for the next several years for that game. We think it’s going to keep continuing and keep continuing. I think one of the things that you see in the industry overall, is people playing their games for longer, you know?’

Howard also mentioned that there’s no rush to develop a new single-player Fallout game, despite there being a lot of call for it right now. Instead, BGS is more interested in seeing how things pan out with this multi-faceted and diverse multiplayer-focused title. He pointed out that the game’s newest expansion, Skyline Valley, has just been deployed and is already being regarded as a success – and there’s more planned.

Admittedly, Bethesda is hitting the right notes with Fallout 76. Every so often, the team releases a sizeable update that’s free to consume, and there’s a free-to-access ‘season pass’ with each new update that yields solid rewards for players willing to grind for them. It might have taken quite a well to get here, but Fallout 76 is finally storming ahead in the MMORPG space and dominating the landscape.

At the end of May, it was revealed that Fallout 76 had passed the 20 million player milestone – that certainly sounds like a successful game.
