With the official release of Final Fantasy XIV’s next expansion just weeks away (July 2), fans of the game were treated to a preview of some of the characters from Dawntrail.

During the June 14 FFXIV Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXXXII (Also known as a Live Letter), director and producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida and community producer Toshio “Foxclon” Murouchi revealed numerous new characters that fans will meet during Dawntrail.

These included some familiar faces, such as the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and new community favorite Wuk Lamat, but also several new characters we’d never seen before. From rivals to the throne of the Dawnservant to mysterious antagonists, here are the new characters revealed at the June 14 Live Letter:

Zoraal Ja

Seemingly the first suitor to the role of Dawnservant, Zoraal Ja is a military commander of Tuliyollal, and is the foremost candidate in the rite of succession. A Seeming blood relative to the current Dawnservant, this makes Zoraal Ja a relative of Wuk Lamat.

Koana

Another adopted sibling of the ruling family, Koana is Wuk Lamat’s adopted brother and uses technology and his knowledge to his advantage. Hopes to win the seat of the Dawnservant with these tools. 

Bakool Ja Ja

Without direct ties to the Dawnservant, Bakool Ja Ja is an outside shot to win the right of succession, but as two-headed Mamool Ja are so rare, he’s a natural candidate. He won the right to compete for succession in the Martial Tournament.

Enigmatic Maiden

A strange maiden shrouded in mystery that seems to know more than she lets on. In the past, mysterious women have been a core part of the FFXIV story, from meeting the reincarnation of Minfilia to the goddess Hydaelyn.
