Final Fantasy XIV Mobile Sign-Ups are Open Now, But Only For China

Final Fantasy XIV Mobile is finally releasing, but only for players in China. The mobile version of Square Enix’s hit MMORPG, FFXIV (Final Fantasy 14), has revealed a new pre sign-up website and trailer today (May 20).

The mobile version of FFXIV was first revealed by the games’ lead producer and director, Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida in November of 2024. Since then, we’ve received few updates about the in-development mobile version of Square Enix’s most-popular online title.

Final Fantasy 14 Mobile Sign-Ups Launch But Only For China

Revealed today, the Final Fantasy 14 Mobile game sign-up website features a new trailer as revealed on YouTube and the game’s official Bilibili. In it, we see some familiar FFXIV gameplay, albeit with some tighter camera angles and modified systems.

The mobile version, from information we’ve received in the past from talks by Yoshi-P and other developers, is very similar to the original, but modified for mobile optimization. This includes things like ‘dodge button’ and streamlining the leveling and gearing process. There’s also probably some unfortunate mobile monetization hidden in there as well.

Unfortunately for fans who are still eager to grab this mobile FFXIV, the game looks to be locked to China. This is a pretty common practice, and given that FFXIV operates under a different version that’s region locked and has graphical and narrative differences in China, it makes sense that this mobile release is limited to China. The Chinese market is also more heavily geared towards mobile gaming.

The Chinese version of FFXIV, known as Final Fantasy XIV Crystal World, has some UI differences, uses Japanese cutscenes with subtitles, and adheres to China’s rules on censoring elements such as depictions of death, bones, skeletons, etc.

Still, since this FFXIV mobile version may well be far more limited, and at the time of writing, only appears to include content from up to the A Realm Reborn release, players outside of China aren’t missing much.

Final Fantasy XIV Mobile is developed by Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios and authorized and supervised by SQUARE ENIX. The Final Fantasy 14: Crystal World Mobile game will be officially launched in June.
