FragPunk On Console: A Slightly Released, But Can It Still Carve A Space For Itself?

FraPunk is a free-to-play tactical shooter. Within this game, players play in teams of 5 players against each other. The game varies from most games in game graphics and the theme of the maps. The game was available worldwide on March 10th. Since then, many fans have wondered when Fragpunk will be released for the Xbox and PS5 consoles. Now, the official announcement for the game’s release on console has been made, and we take a look at whether it can be a hit on a new platform.

FragPunk On Consoles Could Come In Summer 2025

Since its launch, FragPunk has averaged around 80,000 active users. During its closed beta, the game was mainly appreciated for its gameplay. Fans of the game talked about how each gun within the game has a different feel from each other. The other aspect going for it is that the game has quite a unique form of gameplay. The game has unique cards that players can activate at the start of the round. These provide unique buffs to the player.

When the game was in the beta phase, it was available on both PC and console. Within the two platforms, there was cross-platform compatibility available as well. As stated above, the game was released worldwide on March 10th. One thing that caught fans off guard was that the game was only released for PC. In a blog post on their website, the developers have stated the following:

“We’re taking our time to perfect the console version so that you can have the best possible FragPunk experience. We aim to have it ready for you within the next two months. We know waiting sucks, so we’ll keep you in the loop with regular updates on how the console version is shaping up. No secrets here – we believe in keeping things transparent between us and our players.”

Therefore, the release date of Fragpunk on consoles will likely be sometime in the summer. That being said, how will it compete with other titles? Marvel Rivals and VALORANT are both available on Xbox and PlayStation which are some of the game’s main rivals.

Both games do have a first mover advantage. Despite that, Fragpunk has been able to carve out a niche for itself on PC, so we don’t see why it can’t do the same on consoles too.

Based on past records, a well optimized game which doesn’t have bugs is always better than a slight first mover advantage. It’s great to see the developers focusing on this. Additionally, the transparency in its process is also something the community values.

Time will tell on how the game eventually fares on consoles.
