If you’re wondering when Frostpunk 2 will release, you’re not alone. It’s one of the most anticipated games of the back half of 2024, and it figures to be a potential awards contender. It’s a busy time of year with games like Black Myth: Wukong, Space Marine 2, and Astro Bot out right now and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, and NHL 25 coming soon after.

When Does Frostpunk 2 Come Out?

The main release date for Frostpunk 2 is September 20. However, there is early access. Many gamers bought the Deluxe Edition for the game. It launched on September 17 (September 18 in some time zones). Those who only pre-ordered the Standard Edition or have not yet bought the game can expect to play it on September 20. It will go live at the following times:

1 pm EST
7 pm CEST
6 pm BST
2 pm BRT

It comes exactly 72 hours after the launch of the early access period. Some players are already enjoying the game, and others will be able to very shortly. If you have the Standard pre-order and are tired of waiting, you can upgrade your purchase and get the Deluxe Edition. This will grant early access and the other pre-order bonuses that came with the purchase. However, the game will also be on Game Pass on day one. So many top Xbox titles get put on the service, and Frostpunk 2 is no exception. Those who have the service and don’t want to pay can wait until September 20 and try it without paying the price of the game.

What is Frostpunk 2?

For those unfamiliar, Frostpunk was a city-building survival game developed by 11 Bit Studios. Players had to play as 19th-century leaders and build, develop, and maintain a city during harsh times. It was available on PlayStation, Xbox, and various computer operating systems. Frostpunk 2 is a sequel in which players have the same task but are having to do so 30 years following an apocalyptic blizzard that has wreaked havoc on Earth. A never-ending winter and an overbearing council are the primary antagonists in one of the most-anticipated games of the year.
