In most modern RPGs, the ability to change your appearance after you begin your adventure is a given. In-game mechanics usually ensure your initial choice doesn’t have to be your final one, although Oblivion Remastered is a little different. You can’t change appearance in Oblivion Remastered after you’ve finished the tutorial. You’re given one last opportunity to alter your character when leaving the Imperial City Sewers, but that’s it for conventional methods. Don’t worry – we have a solution that doesn’t involve using any Oblivion Remastered glitches.

To change appearance in Oblivion Remastered, you’ll need to use console commands. One console command in particular, in fact. This is unfortunately only possible on the PC version of the game, so if you’re playing on the Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5 versions, this won’t work for you.
To open the console in Oblivion Remastered, press the tilde key on your keyboard. This is usually the “~” key on your keyboard, located above your “Tab” key. The console will appear, then you need to enter the following command:
A quick note that using this will disable achievements for your Oblivion Remastered playthrough. You can use a mod that re-enables achievements when using console commands to get around this.
After entering the “showracemenu” command, exit the console by pressing the tilde key again. It will open Oblivion Remastered’s character creator, no matter where you are in the game world. Now, it’s just a case of changing your appearance as you see fit! You can change anything, from race, body, head, hair, and name. This can be a great way to show your hero’s progression throughout their adventure visually, if you’re a fan of this type of roleplay.
A word of warning – if you change your race when altering your appearance in Oblivion Remastered, all your stats and levels will be reset. This obviously isn’t ideal when you’re deep into a playthrough, so bear this in mind if you want to change your race.
Unfortunately not. The lack of console commands on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S means that your final opportunity to change appearance in Oblivion Remastered on console is at the end of the Imperial City Sewers tutorial. Take care to ensure you get your character just right!
