It’s not all about knowing how to build a house in Minecraft, making paper is vital to books, trades, and more. The key and only ingredient here is sugar cane. Fortunately, that item is not hard to find. Next to most bodies of water, there will be a few blocks of growing sugar cane. Once you have a couple yourself, you can grow them with ease.

Simply plant each one next to a block of water and you will have a worthy farm in no time. You need three pieces of sugar cane to make three pieces of paper. You can use bonemeal on sugar cane to make it grow and harvest it much faster.

While making it in bulk is very easy, it’s not the only way to acquire this item. It can also spawn organically in chests:

46.4% chance to spawn up to 12 in Shipwreck supply chest
89.4% chance to spawn up to 10 in Shipwreck map chest
89.2% chance to spawn up to 7 in Stronghold library chest (88.3% in Bedrock Edition)
61.2% chance to spawn up to 5 in Village Cartographer chest

Also, in Java Edition, villagers may give players some paper after they’ve earned the Hero of the Village effect. Paper is used for a lot of things, so it’s best to take every piece you can find out in the wild.
