To start the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in Elden Ring, you must first beat two of the game’s toughest bosses: Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood. You will not be able to access the DLC if you haven’t beaten these two yet, which is a very FromSoftware move.

With these two bosses defeated, you can then interact with the arm sticking out of the cocoon in Mohg’s boss battle arena. This arm will teleport you to the Land of Shadow, where you can begin Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Don’t worry – you’ll be able to return at any time, so moving to the Land of Shadow isn’t permanent.

It’s that simple to start Shadow of the Erdtree! Read on to find out how to beat both of the bosses to access the new Elden Ring DLC.

To take down Starscourge Radahn, you need to start Radahn’s Festival at Redmane Castle in Caelid. This can be done via a few different methods:

  • Reach the Altus Plateau via the Grand Lift of Dectus.
  • While completing Ranni the Witch’s quests, speak to Preceptor Seluvis about Radahn’s Festival.

You can now head to Redmane Castle to face Starscourge Radahn, completing the first objective to start Shadow of the Erdtree.

Afterward, it’s just down to fighting Mohg, Lord of Blood. To find him, you need to head to the Dynasty Mausoleum in Mohgwyn Palace. To find it, follow one of the following two steps:

  • Go west of the Consecrated Snowfield and use the teleporter.
  • Progress through White Mask Varre’s questline and use the Pureblood Knight’s Medal.

After defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood, you’re ready to touch the arm and head into Shadow of the Erdtree. Just make sure you’re of the right level, which, if you’ve defeated both of these bosses, you likely will be anyway.
