How To Trigger a Raid in Minecraft in 1.21
A Minecraft Raid can be exhilarating but extremely dangerous. The familiar call of Pillagers often strikes fear into the hearts of players and the villagers they are now sworn to protect.
The rewards for completing a raid are fantastic, but it is no easy feat- especially in single-player worlds. Raids have been tweaked in the recent 1.21 update, so here’s what you need to know.

All About Minecraft Raids in 1.21
A Raid occurs when players with the Bad Omen effect enter a village. This effect used to be obtained by killing a Pillager captain, but is now caused by drinking from an Ominious Bottle. The area near a village is large, so if you get too close, you will trigger a raid. Once you’re in, there are multiple stages you must clear before the raid ends. After that, you have the Champion of the Village effect. This significantly discounts any trades you do with the villagers there, especially in the Minecraft 1.21 update.
Pillager captains are found at Pillager Outposts, or leading a wandering patrol. Once you kill a Pillager Captain, it will drop an Ominious Bottle. Pillager groups are known to spawn randomly outside the Outpost. They can wander up to you anywhere, and they always have a Captain as well. Either way, Pillager captains aren’t extremely common, so you’ll need to seek one out to get Bad Omen. This is an exceptional tactic if you have your own village, as you can control the price of trades and earn a lot of emeralds.
Ominous Bottle
The Ominous Bottle is a brand-new item in Minecraft 1.21. It is a potion that can give the Bad Omen effect. If you drink it in a Trial Chamber, the newest generated structure in Minecraft, it gives the Trial Omen effect instead. This transforms the Trial Chamber into an Ominous Trial Spawner and an Ominous Vault. The latter is the only way on how to make a mace in Minecraft, so this is key. To acquire the Ominous Bottle, you must find and kill a Pillager with the Ominous Banner.
Ominous Banner in Minecraft Raid
The Ominous Banner is how players can identify the Pillager captain. The hostile mob will have this banner over his head. The captain is the only one with the banner. The rest of the Pillagers will have nothing on their heads. Ultimately, this is the only Pillager you need to kill. The rest will hunt you relentlessly, but they’re inconsequential to getting the Ominious Bottle.
The Ominous Banner is also an item that is dropped when a Pillager captain is slain. They can also be found on Pillager Outposts. You can break them and carry them. They serve no other purpose after that aside from decoration, so there isn’t much reason for you to keep them.
