Is Gray Zone Warfare Open World?
Gray Zone Warfare looks like it’ll be one of the most phenomenal shooters in years. It’s an ambitious game that takes players and throws them into a dangerous environment as ‘PMCs’. They’re charged with completing missions, fighting other players and AI enemies, and escaping with their lives – and their loot. One key question that’s on the minds of potential fans is simple: ‘Is Gray Zone Warfare open world?’
It’s a fair thing to ask – everything we’ve seen so far lends itself nicely to a large, open environment. But does Gray Zone Warfare have a big map that you can explore at will? If it does, how are you navigating that map? Are there vehicles in Gray Zone Warfare? Let’s find out.

Gray Zone Warfare is an open-world game with very few restrictions. Players are free to go wherever they want, exploring a vast world that measures 42km² – which is pretty massive. To navigate this wide, open environment, players will mostly rely on their own two feet to get around. There is a fleet of choppers ready and waiting to transport players where they want to go, but they’re only used to fly to and from pre-determined landing zones, or ‘LZs’.
Outside of those choppers, players are stuck with walking and running across the map, which boosts the survival elements found in Gray Zone Warfare.
Vehicles may surface later, as the game will be launched in an early access state. It’s not outside the realms of possibility that the developer, MADFINGER Games, would introduce driveable vehicles to Gray Zone Warfare, but that’s a conversation for another day.
So, yes – Gray Zone Warfare is open world. It boasts a super-sized map that’s to scale, which means it’ll take one hell of a long time to get across it. It doesn’t feel empty, though – there are points of interest – like enemy camps, villages, and industrial facilities – littered all over the world. There’s a lot to see and do, and fortunately, Gray Zone Warfare uses an interactive map interface at all times, which means you’ll be able to explore without worrying about getting lost.
Is Gray Zone Warfare open world? You betcha. Now you’ve just got to wait for Gray Zone Warfare to come out.
