With the hype surrounding Marvel Rivals, it was only a matter of time before a tournament occurred. On February 13, Marvel Rivals announced its first tournament, the Marvel Rivals Invitational, which consisted of some of the new rosters within the Marvel Rivals Esports Ecosystem. Recently, the Oceania phase of the tournament occurred, concluding with Kanga Esports securing the championship. This article looks at everything during this event and what fans can expect next.

The Marvel Rivals Invitational (MRI) is a tournament hosted by Marvel Games. It is divided into four regional phases. The first phase was the Oceania split, which showcased the talents of the top Marvel Rivals from the countries within the Oceania region.
The tournament’s prize pool was $100,000, and the winning team received $40,000. In comparison, the team that finished 2nd received $30,000. The Oceania split of the tournament was played in a double bracket format with four teams participating. Below is a list of all the teams that took part in the event:
The matches in the tournament’s upper bracket, including the upper bracket finals, would be a B03 series. The matches in the lower bracket would be a B05 series. Both Kanga Esports and Platinum Star won their first match with a score of 2-0. In the upper bracket finals, Platinum Star defeated Kanga Esports 2-0. The lower bracket finals was another clean sweep, with Kanga Esports defeating Fury Global 3-0.
The tournament’s Grand final was the rematch between Kanga Esports and Platinum Star. The winner of the series would be decided through a best-of-seven match. On the first map, Kanga Esports secured the win with a score of 3-2. This was followed by back-to-back wins, with Platinum Star taking the lead in the series 2-1. Following this, Kanga Esports won 3 maps in a row, making them the tournament champions.
The next phase of the Marvel Rivals Invitational will take place on the continent of Asia. The matches will be taking place from Feb 22 and 23 at UTC +9. Until now, the teams that have announced their participation in this event haven’t been announced. It must be stated that the hype for the game isn’t dying, with its player count being relatively high since its launch. Recently, the Marvel Rivals Showdown on Twitch Rivals event, which had a prize pool of $200,000, had a peak viewership of 175,959 viewers.
