Mafia: The Old Country Release Date – A Lean, Mean Mob Story Arriving This August
Mafia: The Old Country release date is officially set, taking players back to early 1900s Sicily for a gritty, story-driven prequel. This is Mafia’s return to form and follows Enzo Favara’s rise through the Torrisi crime family in a focused, cinematic take on the origins of organised crime.
What Is the Mafia: The Old Country Release Date?
Mafia: The Old Country drops on August 8, 2025, launching on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. That’s about a month before the next big 2K title, Borderlands 4, which is set to drop in September. It’ll come in two versions: the Standard Edition at $49.99 and the Deluxe Edition at $59.99. Both are up for pre-order now, and yes, pre-order bonuses are available.
The Standard Edition gives you the full base game, while the Deluxe Edition loads you up with exclusive outfits, weapons, a vintage race car, and even a horse. You’ll also get the original soundtrack and a digital artbook packed with behind-the-scenes content from the devs.

Mafia’s Return To Form
Sicily might look stunning on the surface—rolling hills, sunlit vineyards, and cobblestone streets—but underneath, it’s a brutal battleground. In Mafia: The Old Country, you play as Enzo Favara, a guy trying to rise through the ranks of the Torrisi crime family, where trust is rare and a blade in the back is just part of doing business.

Combat’s gritty and personal. You’ll sneak through alleyways for quiet takedowns, get into bloody knife fights, or pull out old-school shotguns when you don’t care about being sleuthful. The journey takes you from crumbling ruins to opera houses and backroads, riding on horseback or behind the wheel of a rattling vintage car, always one step away from chaos.
Unlike the previous open-world entries, Mafia: The Old Country takes a more focused approach as a linear, narrative-driven experience. 2K wants to offer a great story without requiring a massive time commitment from players, giving you the mobster experience you love from Mafia, but without the sprawling open-world filler.
Mafia: The Old Country – Final Thoughts
Honestly, it’s great that Mafia: The Old Country is a “return to form”. After the mess of Mafia 3, it’s great to see Hangar 13 return to what the series does best—a focused, narrative-driven experience. Enzo Favara’s rise through the Torrisi crime family feels like it’s got all the right elements for a classic mob story, without all the unnecessary fluff. The $50 price tag is a nice touch, too, especially when most games are pushing $70.
With GTA 6 delayed, Mafia: The Old Country has a perfect window to shine. I’m hoping this game delivers that dark, Italian mobster story we’re all craving.
