Marvel Rivals has quickly become one of the most loved hero shooter games following its launch in December last year. From its inaugural seasons, the 6v6 hero shooter has introduced a wide roster of 33 characters, 8 maps, and a plethora of in-game content. But now fans are already looking forward to the upcoming Marvel Rivals Season 2 update.

Marvel Rivals Season 2 Expected Release Date

If we look back into the game’s seasonal structure, season 2 is expected to launch on April 11, 2025. Season 1 of Marvel Rivals started on January 10, 2025, which also introduced the Fantastic Four members as playable characters. However, till now, there is still no official news about the release date. But instead of waiting for the official announcement, you can check out all the latest additions Season 1.5 update has already brought to the game.

Marvel Rivals Season 2 Theme: The Hellfire Gala Speculation

Every Marvel Rivals season has its own theme or storyline. Season 0 of Marvel Rivals focused on Doctor Doom and the chaos caused by his time stream experiments. Season 1 on the other hand, introduced a clash between the Fantastic Four and Dracula’s forces in New York City. Now, according to the latest leaks, Season 2 could center around the Hellfire Gala, a major event from the X-Men comics.

We can see on a gallery card in the game that says “Doom has a gala to attend”. This is possibly a reference to the Hellfire Gala. In this iconic X-Men event, mutants will open their gates to non-mutants. This suggests that mutant heroes like Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Rogue may join the Marvel Rivals roster soon.

The new season will also bring a new Marvel Rivals battle pass with fresh rewards.

Hellfire Gala Event: What is it, Origin and Lore from comics

In Marvel Comics, the Hellfire Gala is a grand annual event hosted by Emma Frost and the Hellfire Trading Company. Introduced in Marvel Comics first in June 2021, it’s a union of mutant culture, politics, and fashion, where mutants invite world leaders and superheroes to the mutant nation of Krakoa. In this event, each gala brings major plot developments like Mars turning into Planet Arakko, leading to significant reveals like the mutant resurrection secret, the introduction of the new X-Men team and more.

In short, for Marvel Rivals players, the next season will be heavily tied to the X-Men lore, which also aligns with leaks that most of the heroes set to drop next season are mutants.

According to leaks and data-mined voice lines, several Marvel characters are in development. While all the heroes are not going to drop together, these are the heroes that are currently rumored to join the roster soon.

Deadpool: Expected to be a Duelist, Deadpool is known for his agility and proficiency with dual katanas and firearms, excelling in one-on-one combat scenarios.
Emma Frost: Likely to join as the first female Vanguard in Marvel Rivals, she utilizes her telepathic abilities and diamond form to control the battlefield and absorb damage.
Jean Grey: Functioning as a Duelist, she wields powerful telekinetic and telepathic powers to engage enemies directly.
The Hood: While his role is not clear, he employs his mystical cloak and pistols to disrupt opponents and lead assaults.
Angela: Much like Magik, she is a formidable Duelist, bringing her Asgardian strength and combat skills to dominate in close-quarters battles.
Hit-Monkey: As a nimble Duelist, this expert assassin monkey uses firearms and martial arts to outmaneuver and eliminate targets.
M.O.D.O.K.: Expected to be a Strategist, he leverages his is expected to use his superior intellect and advanced weaponry to control the battlefield and support allies.
Professor X: Expected as a Support, he may use his powerful telepathy to assist teammates and hinder enemies.
Ultron: As a Strategist, this AI villain commands drones and utilizes advanced technology to heal allies.
Blade: A skilled Duelist, he employs his vampire-hunting expertise and weaponry to excel in close combat.

Who will be in Season 2?

As of now, there is no confirmation who among all these characters will officially make it to the season 2 roster. Latest leaks from data miners have revealed voice lines of existing characters. This includes Spider-Man, Rocket Racoon and Punisher interacting with leaked characters like Deadpool, Hit Monkey and M.O.D.O.K.

Although this ensures that they are confirmed to join the game later down the line, there is no way to confirm if they are joining in the very next season indeed.

The leaked voice lines also suggest two new New Maps coming in Marvel Rivals

Collector’s Theme Park: Mantis mentions rescuing people who are trapped in this mysterious place.
Krakoa: Krakoa is teased by many characters. Magneto warns of a war linked to Doctor Doom’s Hellfire Gala plans, hinting at Krakoa’s arrival in Season 2.

Seems like the upcoming seasons of Marvel Rivals are going to be more insane than before. Right from the get-go, the game has embraced a “more is merrier” approach, ambitiously expanding its roster and content.
