Microsoft Reveals Three New Xbox Console Variants

Microsoft has unveiled three new Xbox Series X|S consoles, due to be released later this year in certain markets. While they’re not necessarily toting anything new under the hood, they’re upgraded in particular ways that will make them more attractive to users yet to invest in one. Firstly, a 1 TB Series S is being released in ‘Robot White’, then there’s an all-digital Xbox Series X (also in white), and a 2 TB Series X ‘Special Edition’ console.

It hasn’t been revealed how much these consoles will cost, but the 2 TB Special Edition Series X is expected to carry a hefty price tag. It features a unique controller, a special paint pattern, and an upgraded SSD that allows users to store more of those all-important games.

Revealing Consoles

At the recent Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft’s teams revealed a massive line-up of games making their way into the ecosystem soon. From Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to a brand-new Gears of War title, there’s plenty on the way for gamers worldwide. As the event wrapped up, the recently promoted President of Xbox, Sarah Bond, announced a trio of special consoles making their way onto the market at the end of 2024.

Here’s a brief trailer showcasing these new consoles:

Some fans have questioned why Microsoft would release an all-digital Xbox Series X and not equip it with a 2 TB SSD, but that’s for minds greater than mine to work out. The pick of the bunch is the Special Edition console, which has a subtle but unique paint pattern that’s unmistakably tied to the Xbox brand. The controller has also been tweaked, taking on a similar aesthetic to the console unit.

In the coming months, Microsoft will reveal the prices for these consoles as well as the markets that they’re expected to release in.
