MindsEye Is Being Compared to GTA 6 – But Will That Hurt Its Chances?
You could be forgiven for not knowing about MindsEye. With the 2025 release slate stacked with DOOM: The Dark Ages, Atomfall, and Mario Kart World, it’s easy for a lesser-known game to get lost. However, this one shouldn’t. It’s got the potential to be a sleeper hit this year, and it’ll be quite popular.
However, even with a staff of industry veterans, recent comments from the director and comparisons to GTA 6 could cause MindsEye to falter at the final hurdle. What’s going on with MindsEye?

MindsEye Draws GTA 6 Comparisons as Director Says It’s Being Sabotaged
Let’s start with the most important detail: The release date. MindsEye’s official release date is June 10 on all platforms, with no staggered release date or versions for the different platforms. However, some concerns about the game have emerged after recent playtests. According to reviewers who got their hands on a preview version , the game is allegedly a “A broken mess, filled with bugs.” This led Rocket Boy’s CEO to claim that the negative reviews were part of a concerted effort to slander the game.
In a post on the games’ Discord, the studio co-CEO Mark Gerhard hinted that the game was actively being sabotaged. In response to a user who asked if those who reacted negatively to the preview of the game were “financed by someone,” Gerhard said “100%.”
“100%,” Gerhard replied, drawing a handful of joy and fire emoji reactions. “Doesn’t take much to guess who.”
However, this could all be read as sarcasm – we’d like to imagine the CEO of a major game company doesn’t believe that Rockstar and Take-Two are actively funding the downfall of MindsEye…
Meanwhile MindsEye’s director Leslie Benzies attempted to quell comparisons to GTA 6, stating the game has a shorter run time, and a linear approach. He also claimed “the majority of people” don’t actually play games all the way to the end anyway.
MindsEye will be available on the big three platforms: PC, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5. On PC, it will be available via the Steam Platform.
The official story trailer shows off the narrative that players can expect to experience when they play. The story centers on the proliferation of AI controlled robots. The artificial intelligence of old robots that eventually get too smart for humans to control – hinting at real world concerns about AI.

The game has a “Detroit: Become Human meets GTA”-vibe and for good reason – Grand Theft Auto 5 lead designer Leslie Benzies is helming the team as the game’s director. Because of this, expect a large open world that sprawls and allows you to interact with the rebelling robots, and the normal citizens of a futuristic city.
MindsEye is an action-adventure game. It was developed by Build a Rocket Boy and published by IO Interactive. Sebastian Livall is the artist, and he is best known for Overcooked! and Hell Let Loose. MindsEye is primarily a single-player game, and will reportedly constant update with new content – similar to Leslie Benzies’ previous title, GTA V.
However, there’s also some upside. There’s indications that MindsEye will feature:
- Open-world driving gameplay
- GTA-style combo
- “Arcadia,” a content creation mode available for PC players
- An expansive main city hub.
We have strong hopes for this title, and will definitely be keeping an eye out.
