Gamers Are Invited To Test Minecraft for PlayStation 5

There’s a native version of Minecraft for PlayStation 5 on the horizon, and in a recent announcement, it was confirmed that players can test the game out in a limited preview event. In a post on the Minecraft website, players were invited to ‘help’ Mojang Studios test the PS5-native version of the popular block-building game that first emerged in 2011. To date, Minecraft has been released on almost every gaming platform, but this is the first time that a native version of the game has been created for PlayStation 5.

If you want to purchase Minecraft on PlayStation 5, you’ll need to secure a PlayStation 4 copy and access it via backwards compatibility. Going forward, the native Minecraft version will be better optimised to take full advantage of the power of the PlayStation 5, which is a huge win for fans of ‘Team Blue’.

How to Acess the Minecraft PS5 Preview

Since June 20, the preview version of Minecraft on PS5 has been available to access. If you’re eager to check it out on your PlayStation 5 console, you’ll need a PS4 copy of the game. From there, accessing the preview couldn’t be easier:

  1. Navigate to the settings menu on Minecraft (PS4)
  2. Locate ‘Preview’ in the settings and switch it on
  3. That’s it

Mojang has advised that the preview build is likely to be unstable and will not be representative of the final version – which is why this testing period exists. You’ll likely run up against bugs and issues, but opting out of the preview is just as easy as getting involved in the first place. There are also limitations in place when accessing the preview version of the game. For instance, you can only play multiplayer with other PlayStation users when trialling the preview version.

Also, while Realms are available, the Minecraft store isn’t, which might present an issue. As this is a testing period, Mojang welcomes feedback and has posted links to a form and a Discord server that users can use to post tips regarding bugs or any other issues. It’s worth noting that using the preview service might also mess with your Minecraft settings.
