Sonic The Hedgehog 3 just dropped its latest trailer and the edgiest character in the Sonic franchise, Shadow the Hedgehog, is staying true to form.

In the new trailer, released on the official Sonic The Hedgehog Movie social media accounts, Shadow remarks to his evil ally Doctor Eggman and creator Gerald Robotnik “there won’t be anything left to rule…” after they’ve done destroying the world.

Shadow Fills His Edge-Lord Quota In Sonic 3 Movie Trailer

Shadow stays true to form in the Sonic 3 Movie trailer that sees him brandish a gun, ride a motorcycle, and even pull the animation meme/trademark ‘The Akira Slide.’ Hinting at his tragic backstory, Shadow is seen brooding while remembering Maria, the girl he formed a bond with while being created. Needless to say, he’s as appropriately close to being an edge-lord character as we all remember.

Shadow is perhaps the main attraction of the upcoming third installation of the Sonic movie franchise after movie two introduced Knuckles, portrayed by Idris Elba. Shadow the Hedgehog, who will be voiced by Keanu Reeves, who joins the start studded cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 that includes Ben Schwartz, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Idris Elba.

Shadow the Hedgehog first joined the Sonic franchise in 2001’s Sonic Adventure 2, where he was initially the game’s antagonist, but eventually a playable character and protagonist. It’s suspected that Sonic The Hedgehog 3 will follow somewhat of a similar story to Sonic Adventure 2, given the similar cast of characters. Beyond this, little is known about the plot of the upcoming video game movie. Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most beloved video game franchises of all times, one of the games that changed us, and the movie adaptations have become somewhat popular due to the perception that creators Paramount Pictures have been taking criticism on board. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 debuts in the United States and Japan on Dec. 20, and in the UK on Dec. 21. It’s currently unknown if and when it’s scheduled to land on streaming services.
