Space Marine 2 Reveals Its Multiplayer, and it’s More Than Anyone Had Hoped For

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 might just be one of the most anticipated Warhammer-adjacent games ever, and the hype train just got a notch faster as three multiplayer modes were just revealed. Unveiled in a new trailer on May 23, Space Marine 2 will feature a three-player narrative campaign, three-player co-op missions, and six versus six multiplayer battles.

The bulk of the trailer was glimpses of the action in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, but within that there were some incredible insights into what to expect. For one, over a dozen enemy types, six unique classes for Space Marines to choose from, and complete Chapter customization.

This is huge news for avid 40k fans, as one of the most interesting things about the universe is the multitudes of Space Marine Chapters (kind of like knightly orders for those not versed in Warhammer-ese). Just from the trailer we caught glimpses of Imperial Fists, Dark Angels, and customization elements that could be used for a half dozen more.

The class system also seems to offer a variety across all three types of multiplayer. These classes include Tactical Marine, Assault Marine, Vanguard, Bulwark, Sniper, and Heavy.

And for those who are knee-deep in lore like us, you’ll be happy to know there seems to be ways to switch between Primaris-style marines and more traditional or old-school style armor types.

Game modes are split into three-player PvE style hoard shooters and a 12-person team deathmatch style affair, that may have more modes besides. And all of it will be filled to the brim with grimdark flavor, skulls, and purity seals, just like any good Space Marine experience should be.

What Does All This Mean?

If all this Warhammer talk seems like we’re speaking a foreign language, then know this: it’s three player third-person co-op battles with vs. hoards of bugs and super-soldier team deathmatches.

Some favorable comparison have already been made to the likes of Helldivers 2, Gears of War, and even, in a big reach, Mass Effect 3’s highly regarded tacked-on multiplayer.

All this means that while Space Marine 2 was hit with a disappointing delay, pushing it back to September, the hype couldn’t be more for this 40k flagship game.
