GeoGuessr World Cup 2025 Shatters Viewership and Prize Pool Records

A passionate crowd erupted at the K.B. Hallen Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark, as Radu “Radu C” Casapu defeated Szabolcs “Debre” Debre in a narrow 3-2 Grand Final at the GeoGuessr World Cup 2025.

It’s safe to say that the geographical guessing game, where players must deduce locations from Google Street View images, has taken the esports world by storm.

Judging by the pageantry of the Grand Final, viewership and prize pool records are being shattered year after year. Now, the massive support from the community has propelled the esport to new heights at the GeoGuessr World Cup.

GeoGuessr World Cup 2025 by the numbers

Since 2023, the GeoGuessr World Cup has been growing in stature, and the 2025 edition was the biggest one yet, breaking viewership and prize pool records. The GeoGuessr World Cup 2025 took place over two days (August 29-30th) and a total of 19 hours and 55 minutes of broadcast.

According to an interesting report from Esports Charts, the GeoGuessr World Cup 2025 broke the record for the most hours watched for a GeoGuessr event, at a whopping 1,670,689 — 3.7% more than last year’s world championship numbers. Keep in mind that the GeoGuessr World Cup 2024 broadcast ran for over five hours longer, making the increase of 3.7% even more impressive.

The broadcast hit its peak viewership of 363,415 during the Grand Final, breaking the previous record of 297,896 held by the 2024 World Cup. The report attributes part of the tournament’s success to the fantastic coverage from content creators, mentioning the likes of Ludwig “Ludwig” Ahgren, Adrien “ZeratoR” Nougaret, Emily “ExtraEmily” Zhang, and many more.

In a press release, the co-founder and Head of Esports at GeoGuessr, Mikael Falgard, expressed his joy and excitement, stating:

This year’s World Championship has been an incredible journey. We’ve visited four countries, met our amazing community, and connected with GeoGuessr fans from all around the globe. We are extremely proud of all the competitors, who have given the audience matches we will not soon forget. With this championship, we’ve truly taken GeoGuessr as an esport to a whole new level.

The 16 competitors fought for a record-breaking prize pool. At the GeoGuessr World Cup 2025, the total prize pool was $108,470, nearly double the previous record. Previously, the biggest prize pool for a GeoGuessr tournament was $54,875.
