Join the fight for Democracy
You could describe Helldivers 2 as Starship Trooper the game, as it has a lot of similar concepts to the movie. Helldivers 2 is a sequel to the 2015 Helldivers made by Arrowhead Game Studios. Still, the sequel is different and better in almost every way. The game went from a twin-stick shooter to a fully third-person shooter with improved mechanics for the players, the enemies, weapons, and more.
While these sound simple enough, you will quickly find out the hostility of these planets won’t make it easy as you will encounter powerful enemies that will swarm you, robots that resemble the Terminator, tanks, and more that would require you to coordinate with your teammates to have any chance of surviving.
Explosive, Chaotic Fun
Helldivers 2 gameplay involves a more grounded boot-on-ground approach to its shooting rather than the fast-paced movements other shooters go for. Players’ running speeds are average; you can’t jump and climb high buildings or objects and can only vault over short heights. While these might be off-putting for some players, it adds a sense of awareness that you aren’t superhuman and will be punished for mistakes you make of taking fights you aren’t equipped for.
Helldivers 2, too, equips players with multiple weapons and equipment to help them in their battle against their foes. Players are given a ship they can name and equip with weapons to help them in battle. Firearms feel great to use with excellent sound design; as you progress the game, you unlock more weapons to help against more formidable enemies.
Players can also call orbital strikes from their ships against large hordes or powerful enemies, which can tip the scale of the battle to their favor or make things a lot worse for you and your team.

Fighting the Hordes Together
Helldivers 2 shines when playing with friends and other players, as working together to battle against enemies like the Terminids requires someone to watch your back. Besides teamwork, the game allows for many funny moments and interaction between you and your teammates. From friendly fire being available, which means you could “accidentally” kill your teammates in all the chaos going on, or watching your teammate dying to their orbital strike, grenade, or sentry. These moments also give a sense of awareness of your actions and the actions of your teammates, as your greatest enemy might just be your teammate.
With Helldivers 2 crossplay, every player contributes to liberating the planets from enemy factions. The game features a real-time sever progression to show how other players across the servers are also doing their part to free the planets. This means both PS5 and PC players work together to liberate planets. That said, Xbox players cannot help with the fight as the game was only made for the PS5 and PC. Still, players are saying they need all the help they can get and are urging for the game to be released on Xbox consoles.
The Ugly Side of War
Unfortunately, the fight has not gone as smoothly for some players, which has nothing to do with the game mechanics or difficulty. The players have difficulty getting into the game as servers are always full. This is unacceptable, especially since the game is not free-to-play and costs $40. Even the Helldivers 2 Super Citizen edition costs $60. It is said that the developers did not anticipate the number of players playing Helldivers 2, and their servers could not handle the large numbers. Fortunately, the devs have heard the players and have begun working to resolve the issue.
Conclusion
To put it short, the takeaway from this Helldivers 2 review is that it is crazy fun. If you are a fan of co-op third-person shooters or war-based games or just enjoy shooting and blowing things up, look no further than Helldivers 2. Only a few games in recent years have united the gaming community against a common foe, such as Helldivers 2. As players continue to fight against enemy factions, they also hope to get reinforcements from their Xbox brethren. Fight on fellow citizens and bring Liberty to the galaxy.
