Dr Disrespect Talks About Twitch Ban Allegations on Stream
In recent days, Dr Disrespect found himself in hot water. It’s a familiar place for the controversial content creator, but this time around, it wasn’t of his own doing. This weekend, a former Twitch employee made an allegation against the hyper-popular streamer, claiming to know why he was banned from Twitch in 2020 – an event that has never been explained. In a few words, it was alleged that Dr Disrespect was banned for ‘sexting’ and trying to arrange a meeting with a minor through Twitch’s ‘whisper’ feature.
These serious allegations carry immense weight and have been touched upon by some big industry names in the last day or two. However, Dr Disrespect – whose real name is Herschel ‘Guy’ Beahm – has categorically denied the claims. He stressed that Twitch investigated him more than four years ago and found no wrongdoing, and at the end of it all, they paid up his contract and sent him on his way. The rest is history – but is that history about to be unearthed?
What Happened to Dr Disrespect?
In 2017, Dr Disrespect came out on stream and admitted being unfaithful to his wife. In 2019, he was banned for streaming inside a bathroom at E3 while someone was urinating there. He has had his fair share of struggles, but nothing has carried with it quite as strong an implication as the allegation that he tried to meet with a minor.
In 2020, Beahm was permanently banned from Twitch at the peak of his career on the platform and not long after signing a lucrative deal with Amazon. It has never been made public why he was banned, but the consensus is that NDAs were signed – and that they’re now expiring. On Twitter, one former employee recently aired out ‘what they know’, stressing that Dr Disrespect was banned after sexting a minor and trying to arrange a meeting with them at TwitchCon.
Speaking about the incident in his first stream since the allegations surfaced, Dr Disrespect said:
‘For those that are looking to me to expand on this weekend, I’m not going to. I’ve already said what I needed to say. I don’t give a f*** about this guy. That’s it. So, I do appreciate the donations, I do appreciate the messages… But I’d like to put it into fifth gear right off the rip.’
Doc, who has 4.73 million subscribers on YouTube, said this weekend: ‘Listen, I’m obviously tied to legal obligations from the settlement with Twitch but I just need to say what I can say since this is the f***ing internet. I didn’t do anything wrong, all this has been probed and settled, nothing illegal, no wrongdoing was found, and I was paid.’
There’s no doubt that if these allegations were found to be true, they could effectively end Dr Disrespect’s career and shatter his reputation. For now, his fans and followers are calling for some scrap of evidence to back up these claims, and as of yet, nothing has surfaced.
