Apex Legends Announced For The Esports World Cup Lineup

Recently, representatives of the Esports World Cup taking place in Riyadh this year announced that Apex Legends is joining the dense line-up of games being played at the event. It’s set to be the biggest esports event in history, boasting representation from a staggering array of top-tier esports titles – and some that are more niche. It’s a key part of Saudi Arabia’s intention to become a major player in the esports and gaming industries, and it’s an evolution of the nation’s ‘Gamers8’ tournament that surfaced in recent years.

With Apex Legends joining the line-up, the Esports World Cup takes on one of the most popular battle royale titles in the business. It’s sure to attract a sizeable audience, but it’s just the latest in a long line of games being presented at the event. With unprecedented prize pools, a diverse line-up, and one of the most ambitious multimedia representations in history, the Esports World Cup is shaping up to be something monumental.

In recent years, the Gamers8 event surfaced as the most valuable esports showcase in history. Boasting a prize pool worth tens of millions of dollars, the Gamers8 ‘festival’ showcased the likes of Rainbow Six, Counter-Strike, and Fortnite at a grand venue in Riyadh. It has since evolved and become the Esports World Cup and an entire organisation was created to facilitate the foundation of the inaugural event.

Recently, it was confirmed that Apex Legends will be making an appearance at the Esports World Cup. In recent months, Apex Legends’ esports scene has been blowing up, with plenty of organisations bursting back onto the scene amid increased interest and a growing player count. There is a hugely diverse array of titles being presented at the Esports World Cup, including:

  • Counter-Strike 2
  • League of Legends
  • Dota 2
  • EA FC
  • Apex Legends
  • Fortnite
  • Honor of Kings
  • ML:BB
  • Overwatch 2
  • PUBG Mobile
  • Rainbow Six: Siege
  • PUBG
  • Street Fighter 6
  • Tekken 8
  • Teamfight Tactics
  • RENNSPORT
  • Rocket League
  • Free Fire
  • StarCraft II

Is that enough games? Like the Olympics, organisations will be able to field teams in several categories, and they’ll earn more points if they’re successful in a string of titles. It’s the same as the medal structure in the Olympics, but instead of medals, organisations are simply amassing ‘points’. There are high expectations for the event, which marks a monumental point in Saudi Arabia’s esports evolution.

Recently, the nation revealed the intention to construct a next-generation esports and gaming ‘city’. This site will play host to developers, publishers, industry workers, esports tournaments, and organisations, and it’s a staggering undertaking that will require hundreds of millions of dollars of investments. The coffers are certainly stuffed full and ready to support it, but the gaming community is yet to get fully on board with Saudi Arabia’s efforts.
