
Mayor Declares July 7 Esports Day in City of Chicago
Chicago Major Brandon Johnson has declared July 7, 2024 Esports Day in Chicago, Illinois. The proclamation was released by the Office of the Mayor on July 7 as part of the EsportsNext 2024 conference event held in the city.
The proclamation, shared on LinkedIn by Esports Trade Association chair John Davidson, stated that the esports sector was a globally recognized community that drives infrastructure and investment within the city of Chigaco. It also highlighted the efforts of the Chicago-based Esports Trade Association in supporting the esports ecosystem.

Davidson, who’d posted the proclamation on social media had the following to say:
“Through the ups and downs of the growth phase of this industry, notice that people, companies and cities are understanding that esports is indeed the future of entertainment and worthy of long-term, meaningful support. This is one step of many that will continue to build the foundation of a healthy industry that is viable for businesses and supportive of its members.”
“Whether you are in the Windy City today or across the globe, please join me in thanking the City of Chicago for this recognition, as well as our members and partners for continuing to promote competitive gaming.”
EsportsNext 2024 is an in-conference hosted by the Esports Trade Association (ESTA) set to run from July 7 to July 9. Highlighting Chicago’s local esports ecosystem as a hub of growth and innovation, supporting thriving businesses and engaged communities, EsportsNext is this year sponsored by Coca-Cola, and will feature representatives from Riot Games, Activision Blizzard, Epic Games, Intel, and many more.
