Team SENZA Suspended Amid ESIC Betting Investigation

The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has imposed an interim suspension on Team SENZA (also known as “Rosy”, following its acquisition by Senza) and its current rostered players, coaches, and team staff.

The suspension comes amid an ESIC investigation into alleged breaches of its Anti-Corruption Code and Code of Conduct. In a statement, ESIC said it was investigating Team SENZA over the following:

  • Alleged use of prohibited outside information during competition;
  • Potential betting-related misconduct connected to matches involving the team; and
  • Alleged account-sharing and identity irregularities.

ESIC said that during the investigation, “all current rostered players, coaches, and staff are ineligible to participate in ESIC Member Events.“

It appears this relates primarily to the members of Rosy, who have been replaced since Senza acquired the team.

Team SENZA Suspends Players After Internal Investigation

Team SENZA launched its own investigation last month and suspended player Kirsan “byek” Ivanov, over allegations of account sharing and cheating.

The organization said, as byek had refused to comment on the situation, that they had fined him around $30,000 and he was removed from the roster.

Following the investigation, the team announced an entirely new lineup at the start of this month. It appears from the ESIC statement that this lineup will also be suspended, but the allegations centre around the previous roster.

Fellow Russian Reinstated After Cooperating With ESIC

At the same time, fellow Russian esports competitor Erkhan “gokushima” Bagynanov had his punishment reduced for cooperating with ESIC.

ESIC had banned gokushima for two years for breaching its code of conduct. However, last week, the organization announced that the player would be allowed to compete again after providing “material assistance to ESIC, including information and corroboration that supported subsequent enforcement actions against other participants.”

An ESIC statement noted the information provided by gokushima led to five-year bans for Aleksandr “Ruler” Maximov, Dmitriy “propleh” Senigov, and Petr “timeagento” Markheev. In addition, the organization issued a lifetime ban to Egor “zLy” Polyakov.

The statement announcing the suspension for Team SENZA was released on the same day. Although there was no specific indication that the cases are connected, the statement related to gokushima did note that he provided, “Other information presently being used by ESIC in another ongoing investigation into match-fixing activities.”
