Ingrid’s teaser trailer is bringing Street Fighter 6 hype to the FGC

It’s definitely in the back of my mind that a lot of fighting games are dying, at least their esports scenes, but the latest character coming to Street Fighter 6 seems like it has made the game even more popular with the FGC.

What we all need right now – as the economy falls apart, gaming studios turn to AI, and esports professionals keep losing work – is some fun. And luckily, Street Fighter 6 is providing that with Ingrid. She is straight-up weird, and it looks awesome.

Bring On the Whimsy, Please

Seems like just yesterday that Alex was banging his cousin, and Capcom was telling us we were just a bit confused by it. But just a few weeks after Alex’s release, we already got a teaser for Ingrid, the next DLC fighter. Maybe it’s even a distraction from it, who knows? Either way, I’ll take it.

The teaser trailer shows very little, but we do see that Ingrid is likely able to interact with other dimensions. She also seems to fly. The actual story of how Ingrid arrived in the Street Fighter 6 universe is a mystery so far. We also don’t know her abilities, though she seems to have a little creature called a “Monoid” with her, which not only “linked” her to the fate of some regular human on Earth but also could become a helper of some sort in battle.

Ingrid was originally meant to be in 3D Capcom Fighting All-Stars before it was canceled, so this is the first time she is going to be a playable fighter in the main roster. She will be arriving in “late Spring” in Season 3. No specific date was given.

So… We don’t know much about her. But that hasn’t stopped the FGC from falling in love. She doesn’t seem to really fit in, appearing to be from a different kind of game entirely. But that’s part of the fun.

Said one comment on YouTube: “Ingrid is the kind of fighting character who’s simply humoring you when you fight her. And thank god for that.”

Added another: “Oh she’s weird, I love it.”

Seriously, we need some whimsy. We need a strange mix-up character. A lot of fighting games have become so serious, and so have their communities. I get why. It’s rough out there. Saudi Arabia is buying everything. Pro players can’t get visas to work in America. We can’t even watch the Capcom Cup 12 Top 16.

We don’t want more overly technical games. We want Ingrid being a weird menace. We want to just have some fun while we watch matches. Let’s forget this dimension. Let’s go to her dimension.
