Exclusive: MKOI Myrwn Talks About Season 16 Top Lane Meta — “AP Varus Is Really Underrated And A Strong Champion”
Alex “Myrwn” Villarejo and Movistar KOI picked up a key victory against longtime rivals G2 Esports at LEC 2026 Versus. The Spanish top laner had little time to shine on K’Sante, but was a reliable frontline for his teammates, Supa and Elyoya, dealing huge damage and carrying MKOI to victory.
After the match, we sat down with Myrwn to discuss the League of Legends Season 16 top lane changes, MKOI’s goals for 2026, and more.

Movistar KOI Myrwn On G2 Victory & Outlook On LEC 2026 Season
Q) Hello, Myrwn! Congrats on the big victory against G2 Esports to start the season on a strong note. It was a pretty boring game for you on K’Sante against BrokenBlade’s Gnar, but how are you feeling after the win?
Myrwn: It was pretty boring as I couldn’t do much into the Gnar as he had Flash and Ghost, but I am happy with my team as they played really well today.
Q) Top lane has been a big benefactor of the Season 16 changes, and a lot of carry champions are coming back into the meta. As someone who has a deep champion pool, what are your thoughts on the changes?
Myrwn: I like it so far. I expected more changes or the meta to shift a little bit more, but with what I have seen so far, I really like it. I still think top lane isn’t as broken as bot lane, which is the most broken role in the game by far. I am pretty sure AD Carries needed that sixth item, but so far it’s good, and I can’t really complain. I like being level 20 with a big shield, so I can’t really complain.
Q) Movistar KOI were one of the few teams to make no changes coming into the LEC 2026 season. This year feels like the real make-or-break for this roster. Is the ultimate goal for this roster to at least make it to the playoffs of an international stage or something even more?
Myrwn: This is what we have been aiming for, and to also reach First Stand, of course. We want to make it to as many international tournaments as we can. For example, while First Stand is a short tournament, if you get to adapt during the tournament, then it’s a good experience that you get for future events.
In Worlds, we didn’t really get to adapt that fast to the meta. We got eliminated when we were starting to adapt well and improve a lot. If we can adapt faster and get more international experience quicker, then we can be a really good team in internationals. Therefore, our main goal is to make it to as many internationals as we can.

Q) Alphari joined Movistar KOI as an assistant coach prior to the start of the season. Regarded as one of the best Western laning top laners, how has his addition helped you in improving your game so far?
Myrwn: Honestly, I think he is the best laning phase player out of anyone in Europe that we have had. With Alphari so far, we [have] improved a lot on my laning phase, and I could see the improvements. Today, I was really ready to play, and I was really confident in my abilities on the champions that I was going to play and face, so I was really chill about it.
Q) There are some rookie top laners making their debut in the LEC this season, such as Empyros, Maynter, and Tracyn. What do you think about them? Do you think they have the potential to grow into strong players?
Myrwn: I think so. I think the changes in the top lane have been great this season, even though I like Oscarinin. I think these three players are pretty good, so I am excited to see how they do and how they develop because they have a lot of potential. I am excited to see how they grow.
Q) Do you think the overall quality of the LEC teams has improved from last year? Do you think the top teams like G2 and MKOI have more competition?
Myrwn: Yeah. I would say NAVI did a great job with their roster. SK’s roster is also probably better than last year’s. Karmine Corp did some upgrades too, so I think there is more competition this year, and it’s pretty exciting at the same time.
Q) Is there anything that you would like to say to the MKOI fans?
Myrwn: Thank you for supporting us as always. It’s been only one game so far, and I am sorry for the K’Sante. It’s just typical G2 where they ban your two blinds when you are blue side, so that’s just life. It was a chill game, and in the future, I hope I can showcase some Varus, Zeri, and some good action in the top lane.
Q) Since you mentioned Varus, I wanted to say that I have been spamming AP Varus top in solo queue, and this champion feels unbeatable in the laning phase and kind of broken. Do you think he has a place in the current pro meta?
Myrwn: I think the new item, Dusk and Dawn, is really overpowered on Varus. I think people should just give it a try and see it for themselves. In my opinion, I wouldn’t say it’s broken because you can kind of play around it. Of course, in good spots, he can work as Varus is always a really strong champion to have in the team. Having AP Varus is really underrated and a strong champion when you can build AP and have some items.
