Is Battlefield 2042 dead? Is Anyone Playing the Game Today?

Battlefield 2042 is a first-person shooter that when it launched promised to revolutionise the genre with its large-scale all-out war, customisable portals and danger zone. Is Battlefield 2042 dead?

Well, the game has faced numerous problems since its release in November 2021, including bugs, lack of content and negative reviews.

This has caused its popularity to plummet, with it having fewer players than its predecessors Battlefield 1, 4 and much less than the critically acclaimed Battlefield V which it was expected to surpass, but does this mean Battlefield 2042 is dead? We’ll discuss that in a second.

What is its current number that makes us think it’s dead?

When it was first released, the game had an audience of over a hundred thousand players online, which is no small feat and gave good hope for the game, unfortunately, those numbers didn’t hold up and quickly the volume of players dropped by 50% leading to the game today having only 25,739 players online on average at any one time.

Does this mean the game is dead? Well, not entirely. While this Battlefield 2042 player count represents a big problem in popularity and that it did not reach the levels expected by the company, it also shows that there is an active and loyal community of players, which keeps it out of the danger zone, at least for now.

Is Battlefield 2042 worth playing?

This is a pretty open question, is it worth playing? It depends on your tastes, if you’re into shooters and war games then the answer is yes, the bugs that were once present have been pretty much completely ironed out and its combat system is pretty interesting. We’ll be touching on some of its best features in a second.

What’s so great about Battlefield 2042?

Some of the best plus points for the game are as follows:

  • A new mode called the Battlefield portal allows you to change the rules of war.
  • Wide variety of weaponry, vehicles and more.
  • Large maps
  • Large-scale combat experience
  • Customisation of portals and abilities
  • Solo story mode with unique robots

In the end, 2042 is not as good as other Battlefield titles, so it really is up to you. If you love Battlefield that much, try out 2042 and see for yourself if the game is made for you.

What does the future hold for Battlefield 2042?

By this point, we know that the present doesn’t look very good for the game, especially since for the last two years, according to Steam statistics, the game has rarely had a traffic of more than 50,000 players, but this is the present.

That’s a slightly more complicated question. For now, the designers know that the game is having problems and seem committed to fixing them. In fact, they already have a plan for 2024 that involves the re-introduction of classes, the arrival of new maps and modes, and dedicated technical support.

This lets us know that there is a commitment to the game and therefore gives us hope that the future of Battlefield 2042 will be much better than its present.

To Sum Up

Battlefield 2042 has faced many problems since its release that lie mostly in its player numbers and therefore popularity. However, despite not being as high as perhaps expected, the game still has a relatively large community of players, so it cannot be considered a dead game.

Moreover, regarding the popularity, the EA seem to be ready to take the initiative and improve the content and gameplay of Battlefield 2042 for 2024.

For now, we can only wait and see how this plan of action adapts to the market and how it affects the popularity of the game. However, everything points to the fact that this product will be able to bounce back from the drawbacks.
