The new League of Legends Demon theme for Season 2 could make for a very interesting Nocturne update

As spotted several days ago, it appears the next season of League of Legends 2026 is going to be about hunting demons.
The news comes from Gamescom LATAM’s Instagram post, where the translated messages pertain to a theme of demons, alongside popular ADC champion Vayne, known for demon hunting.
And while it’s certainly cool narratively, especially with the Demacia anthem for the year, it does offer some storyline content. We saw in the cinematic a mystical fog rolling in, with Sona there to help people.
In terms of the game, there’s only one champion known for bringing darkness to locations, and that is Nocturne. So, we could be seeing something Nocturne-related, too, as part of the ongoing season themes for gameplay changes, alongside much-needed lore building.
How could this affect LoL Esports?
Riot Games has already mentioned that this year will be light on content. Most of League’s dev team is focusing on League Next, a much-needed engine and modernization of the game. We got confirmed that there are two reworks and one new champion coming this year. That’s it.
So, it’s a relatively bad year to actually get into League or continue playing if you like dabbling with new stuff outside of gameplay patches.
But here’s where it gets interesting for the esports side of things. Relying on a few visuals and reworks could make small changes to the meta here and there. That one new champion could do too. But, if we have one rework spare, then it could go to Nocturne.
Over the last few years, Riot has let players vote on core champions that needed a VGU or gameplay rework. It featured champions like Fiddlesticks, Volibear, Shyvana, Nocturne, and more. We have, by and large, gone through those since the post-COVID era, leaving just Nocturne on the cards (Tryndamere and Kog too, but those are left in the wind).
It’s speculation, but it could be cool
But that’s interesting, since Nocturne is fairly popular in play rate and can come into the pro scene here and there.
Pros love to dabble with Nocturne Orianna as a combo for the ball delivery. Nocturne ults his target, flies into them, with Orianna’s Shockwave following behind them to group them into Orianna’s follow-up damage and Nocturne’s cleave and Q.
If we get a little rework, or at least a visual upgrade, keeping Nocturne’s core themes in play, we may very well have a very interesting Season 2 and beyond.
Of course, it’s just speculation, but the maths seem to be adding up and going in that direction. So, it leaves some excitement for potentially Nocturne players, Vayne players, or something at least adjacent to them.
