Anivia counters in LoL – the top three picks
Anivia is one of those few champions rarely seen in solo queue but when you do, they are obnoxious to deal with. They will make you suffer from start to finish and take over the game later in the game when they have reached their spike. To help you out, we have listed the best Anivia counters you must learn to win.
If you’re fairly new to the game, check out our guide on how counter picks work in League of Legends. You will understand why counter picks are important, and how you need to take advantage of them to increase your win rate. Make sure to also understand how classes counter one another in LoL so you always know what to pick in each game.
Diana – the best counter
Despite not being often picked as a mid laner, Diana is actually the best Anivia counter possible. The speed at which she can quickly dash in and burst the enemy down is unparalleled in the game. Anivia will never be able to react in time to fight back. And even if she has the passive to survive the first time around, Diana has enough DPS to kill her in egg form.

Xerath – longer range
Xerath’s main advantage over Anivia lies in his long-range poke and early-game wave clearing potential. Anivia will be for the majority be a sitting duck as Xerath will be able to push waves and have lane priority over Anivia.
Taliyah – clearing and roaming
While Taliyah doesn’t have the same level of range as Xerath, she also has better wave clearing early on compared to Anivia. On top of that, Taliyah can roam and join fights at a much faster speed thanks to her ultimate.
Worst Anivia counters
Katarina – the worst matchup
This is one of the few matchups that are really tough to play as Katarina. Anivia has too much crowd control and damage which will zone her out of the fights. Moreover, there aren’t really chances for Katarina to kill Anivia as long as she has her passive ready.
Yasuo – a bad choice
Yasuo is also another champion typically weak against Anivia. The latter can proc Yasuo’s passive with just one tick of her ultimate and she can always find ways to disrupt Yasuo’s aggression by using her Q or wall.

How do you counter Anivia with the items?
When going up against Rengar, it’s recommended to stack a lot of magic resistance. Below is a list of items to build you should consider, based on the class of champion you’re playing:
- Bruisers: Maw of Malmortius, Force of Nature, Raenic Rakoorn
- AD assassins: Maw of Malmortius
- ADC champions: Maw of Malmortius, Mercurial Scimitarr
- AP champions: Banshee’s Veil, Abyssal Mask
- Tanks: Force of Nature, Raenic Rakoorn
What Champion counters Anivia?
The three best counters are Diana, Xerath, and Taliyah. Other strong counters are Veigar, Aurelion Sol, and Viktor.
Does Akali counter Anivia?
Even though Akali has enough tools to jump onto Anivia and attempt to kill her, the Freljord champion has too many tools and crowd control to prevent her from finishing the combo. Moreover, Anivia will scale harder thanks to her ultimate and overall scaling ratios. With that in mind, Anivia is slightly favored in their matchup.
