Caitlyn counters in LoL – the top five picks

Caitlyn is in a solid spot in League of Legends right now in the current meta, but she isn’t the strongest. That being said, a good Caitlyn can decide the game by themselves, which is why you’re going to need to pick a really good bottom laner to deal with the long-ranged marksman.

Caitlyn is able to harass from a considerable distance, making her one of the more annoying bottom laners to go up against. She will always have the priority in the lane, making it easier for them to contest objectives. On top of that, she can zone people off of Baron and Dragon thanks to her traps, you don’t want to step on those if you enjoy having a full health bar.

Jinx – the late game counter

In a matchup that is straight out of Arcane, Jinx is one of the main counters to Caitlyn in League of Legends. While Cait will have the early lane pressure, Jinx will certainly be able to match her in the scaling department, especially when the range can be matched thanks to RFC. Jinx’s rocket form is no joke, you’ll be able to match the range of Caitlyn while doing a good chunk of damage.

Caitlyn isn’t the most mobile, so don’t be scared about getting in her face. She is one of the more clunkier ADCs, so hitting her with W or E is going to be a big problem. As long as you don’t fall down too far in lane, you’re going to do just fine against her in the late game. In terms of the ultimate, Jinx definitely wins out in the late game. When there’s a big teamfight with many low health bars, Jinx is going to be able to kill them all with her ultimate, while Caitlyn’s only can kill one champion.

Senna

Senna has risen to be one of the strongest champions in the bottom lane. And while she is sadly getting a nerf on the next patch, you’ll be able to still dominate Caitlyn in this matchup regardless of the nerf. Senna definitely can match the poke of Caitlyn, and as the game progresses, will outrange her.

On top of that, Senna has been reverted back to being an ADC, so a late-game Senna with maximum range is going to hit her like a truck. Senna’s Q can not only poke, but also heal Senna at the same time, meaning you’re always going to win out in those extended trades.

Also, Senna also provides hard CC, which is something Caitlyn doesn’t provide outside of stunning champions with her trap, an ability that relies on setup. Senna’s W can stun multiple targets, meaning they can start the teamfight with her. So, combining the trading capabilities, the scaling, and the hard CC, there’s only one ADC I am selecting and that is Senna.

Miss Fortune

Although she does in many ways require a lot of setup, Miss Fortune is definitely one of the best picks both in lane and out of lane versus Caitlyn in League of Legends. While the other two are great options, Miss Fortune is one of the only champions that can start to bully Caitlyn back. MF’s Q does a lot of damage and it forces Caitlyn to move in a certain way to avoid being hit by it. You can start to manipulate the lane to force Caitlyn into bad trades.

With Caitlyn’s mobility struggles, Make it Rain provides a lot of lane pressure as Cait is susceptible to dying if she is slowed and out of position. So while Caitlyn definitely has the ranged advantage over Miss Fortune, MF definitely can hold her own in the lane and bully Caitlyn just as much. As far as comparing the ultimates, with the correct setup MF’s ultimate will decide a teamfight, while Caitlyn’s is only single-target.

Tristana

The best way to counter Caitlyn’s range in League of Legends is to simply ignore it. This is what you have to do if you have locked in Tristana when going up against Caitlyn in League of Legends. Although Tristana’s range does increase over time, she has a very short range in the early levels, giving Caitlyn full control over the game.

Therefore, with a good support, you can bypass her range with short-burst all-in attacks. This can be achieved as early as level 2, with Rocket Jump and E, Tristana can burst Caitlyn down, making the most of Cait’s low mobility, as she can’t kite you.

Tristana also scales as well, if not better than Caitlyn in the late game. If it’s a straight-up one versus one, Tristana is winning that every day of the week. Even though Caitlyn can E backwards to prock her passive, Tristana will have enough burst that it doesn’t even matter. Then, when it does hit that late-game, Tristana’s range would have scaled up so that she isn’t at a disadvantage versus Caitlyn.

Twitch

Twitch is more of a niche pick, and isn’t picked by many players, but into Caitlyn specifically, it’s a really good pick, and one that Caitlyn players actually hate. They would rather go up against one of the stronger counters to her than have to deal with a Twitch.

Twitch players are annoying, there’s no denying that. Their purpose is to cause as much chaos as possible, without anyone seeing them. It’s a nightmare to play against, as while Caitlyn has the range over Twitch, he scales into a teamfighting monster, damage that Cait won’t be able to deal with in the late game.

On top of that, when Twitch goes invisible, he can get free kills without having to burn much. Even the high elo players will often fall victim to walking up to the lane, forgetting who they are laning against, and see a Twitch appear behind them. In a one versus one, Twitch has the upperhand, which is why so many players sit back and give Twitch the lane even if they shouldn’t.
