Diana Counters in LoL – The top three picks

Diana provides a powerful combination of damage output and engage potential that is not common among junglers. Her ability to find small windows of opportunity to dash in makes her the ideal playmaking champion and thanks to her burst damage, she can easily punish multiple enemies with her ultimate.

That said, Diana does struggle against specific champions. Let’s go over the best Diana counters in the current meta. If you’re fairly new to the game, check out our guide on how counter picks work in League of Legends. Try to understand how classes counter one another in LoL to improve your game knowledge so you always know which champions are stronger in each situtation.

Bel’Veth – the all-in counter

Diana is the type of champion who wants to jump on the enemy team and deal great amounts of damage in the shortest time possible. Bel’Veth perfectly counters this type of champion thanks to the damage reduction on E and the ability to beat her when it comes to DPS. While Diana can still scale well and kill other enemies, she will always struggle when going up against Bel’Veth.

Xin Zhao – abuse her early on

Xin Zhao is a common counter to Diana thanks to his dueling and skirmishing potential. Diana’s first jungle clear is not super healthy, given the low damage she has, so Xin Zhao is ideal at punishing her. Look to invade and force her to slow down her jungle clear. Until the mid-game, Xin Zhao is guaranteed to win most skirmishes and trades.

Later in the game, though, Diana will scale up so be aware of that and don’t let her get to that stage.

Vi – punches win

Vi functions similarly to Xin Zhao, with the exception that Vi can lock Diana down every single fight. Whether the enemy champion has engaged or not, Vi can easily pin her down with the ultimate, ensuring the enemy won’t be able to deal as much damage. When playing Vi into Diana, you’re mostly looking at tracking her and preventing her from making aggressive plays by counter ganking.

Worst Diana Counters

Shaco – farming too quickly

Even though Shaco has windows to punish Diana early on (just like Xin Zhao), she will always open up a gold lead by farming jungle camps. Once she completes a few item components, Shaco won’t be able to stop her anymore, as she will eventually outscale him. Additionally, Shaco doesn’t have enough damage to one-shot Diana since she will also have the shield from her W.

Fiddlesticks – too much damage

While fiddlesticks can technically heal up most of Diana’s damage with his W, the issue is that the Scorn of the Moon has too much burst damage. Diana’s ultimate also has a small knock up, which blocks Fiddlesticks from casting his own abilities. And considering Diana has similar farming potential, she will get the upper hand in most situations.

Counter Urgot with Smart Itemization

Effective counters to Diana extend beyond the picks. Consider building MR items to lower Diana’s damage and enhance your survivability during the skirmishes. Here are some item suggestions based on the different champion classes:

  • Bruisers/AD Champions: Maw of Malmortius, Wit’s End
  • AP Champions: Banshee’s Veil, Abyssal Mask
  • Tanks: Force of Nature, Kaenic Rookern

Which champions counter Diana?

Bel’Veth, Xin Zhao, and Vi are the best Diana counters at the moment. Other champions like Nocturne, Jax, and Viego are valid choices but more situational.

Does Lee Sin Counter Diana?

Lee Sin is not necessarily a Diana counter but it has a big enough window to get a lead to snowball the game. The Blind Monk is stronger early on and will have a better map presence, but Diana will get stronger and stronger as the game goes on. The matchup will depend on who is able to capitalize more on its strengths.
