Draven counters in LoL – the top three picks
Draven is a special champion in the ADC pool. Compared to the traditional picks, Draven has exceptional early game power due to his damage from the axes. He can easily out trade his opponents and build up the leads from there.
For some of the players who like to trade aggressively, playing against Draven can be tricky and annoying. To that end, we have listed the best Draven counters, explaining why they perform well against him.
If you’re fairly new to the game, check out our guide on how counter picks work in League of Legends. You will understand why counter picks are important, and how you need to take advantage of them to increase your win rate. Make sure to also understand how classes counter one another in LoL so you always know what to pick in each game.
Jinx – the evergreen counter
There aren’t many lane counters to Draven and it mainly depends on the enemy’s ability to find the right window of opportunities to punish you. What you should be looking at, instead, is finding ways to neutralize him in lane and then make sure you can get the upper hand later. Jinx does exactly this: thanks to her rockets, she can quickly clear waves to avoid potential turret dives and slow pushes.
Once she gets two or three items, then she can get the ball rolling: try to find the pick with the Super Mega Death Rocket to trigger the passive and win the fights or skirmishes.
Zeri – the lane counter
If you’re not proficient with Jinx, you can also consider Zeri as an alternative. She scales relatively well and will get the advantage once she starts kiting with her mobility. That said, she is a bit weaker early on which can be troublesome if the enemy Draven is good. Try to farm up without bleeding out kills.

Yasuo – putting map pressure
It’s an unconventional pick but Yasuo works well against Draven. Thanks to the wind wall, he can negate most of Draven’s damage but most importantly, prevent Draven from having the axes bounce back. This means that the ADC will lose a lot of damage if Yasuo blocks at least one Q-auto. It requires specific support champions to work but it can be the pick to surprise your opponents.
Worst Draven counters
Vayne – the worst matchup
This is the worst matchup you can get: Vayne doesn’t have wave clear and also has a short auto attack range. This means that Draven can easily initiate trades whenever Vayne walks up to farm. Avoid this matchup as much as possible.
ce: Draven excels in the early game with his Spinning Axes (Q), which grant him significant bonus physical damage, making him one of the strongest early-game ADCs. Vayne, on the other hand, typically has a weaker early game as she requires time to scale and become a threat.
Ezreal – a bad choice
While Ezreal is similar to Vayne in terms of wave clear, he can farm from a safer distance with his Qs. It makes him less vulnerable to Draven’s aggression, but there isn’t much he can do against the Noxian marksman. Don’t ever trade with him if possible.
How do you counter Draven with the items?
When going up against Draven, it’s recommended to stack armor. Below is a list of items to build you should consider, based on the class of champion you’re playing:
- Bruisers: Death Dance, Randuin’s Omen, Warden’s Mail
- AD assassins: Guardian’s Angel
- ADC champions: Guardian’s Angel
- AP champions: Zhonya’s Hourglass
- Tanks: Warden’s Mail, Randuin’s Omen, Frozen Heart
What Champion counters Draven?
The three best counters are Jinx, Zeri, and Yasuo. Other strong counters are Kog’Maw, Xayah, and Aphelios.
Does Ashe counter Draven?
Ashe doesn’t work well against Draven due to her lower damage output early on. The key element in this matchup is the two players’ positioning during the laning phase. Draven can move up and aggressively but Ashe can slow him down with the abilities. The chances of Ashe killing Draven are low but even Draven might struggle to snowball as hard as he might do against other champions.
