Lux counters in LoL – the top three picks
Lux is a staple pick in the mid lane. Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn the game or someone who wants to climb the solo queue ladder, she’s an evergreen pick that rewards players when they reach a good level of proficiency. In the right hands, she can be oppressive to deal with, so it’s vital to know what picks are good against her to increase your chances of victory: these are the best Lux counters in this season.
If you’re fairly new to the game, check out our guide on how counter picks work in League of Legends. You will understand why counter picks are important, and how you need to take advantage of them to increase your win rate. Make sure to also understand how classes counter one another in LoL so you always know what to pick in each game.
Kassadin – the scaling counter
Kassadin typically struggles against ranged mid laners since he can be harassed and poked during the laning phase. That said, Lux is one of the few exceptions. This is because Kassadin can reduce the damage taken with his Q while also dodging Lux’s skill shots with the ultimate. In other words, the enemy will have a tough time trying to kill you. And once you get a few items, you will take over the game.
Katarina – the lane counter
Compared to Kassadin, Katarina has much more mobility early on thanks to her daggers. Unless you get repeatedly hit by Lux’s skillshots during the lane, you should be able to burst her down with your combos. Go in right after you manage to dodge Lux’s E or Q to get the most out of your trades.

Yasuo – skill-based matchup
Yasuo’s main strength in this matchup lies in the wind wall and the ability to block most of Lux’s skill shots. That said, you have to immediately take advantage of her cooldowns to punish her. Otherwise, she will just keep on poking and clearing waves, and you won’t be able to snowball as hard.
Worst Lux counters
Veigar – the worst matchup
Picking Veigar into Lux is doing self-harm when it comes to LoL. The main reason is that Veigar is relatively immobile and has a shorter range compared to the enemy, making you more vulnerable to the enemy skill shots. Avoid this pick when possible.
Hwei – a bad choice
Similar to Veigar, the newly released Hwei is also a mid-range mage who doesn’t have much power into this lane. Lux will wave clear faster and guarantee herself the lane priority needed to pressure you and get control of early game objectives.
How do you counter Lux with the items?
When going up against Lux, it’s recommended to stack a mix of health and magic resistance. Below is a list of items to build you should consider, based on the class of champion you’re playing:
- Bruisers: Maw of Malmortius, Spirit Visage
- AD assassins: Maw of Malmortius
- ADC champions: Maw of Malmortius, Wit’s End
- AP champions: Banshee’s Veil
- Tanks: Force of Nature, Kaenic Rakoorn
What Champion counters Lux?
The three best counters are Kassadin, Katarina, and Yasuo. Other strong counters are Viktor, Aurelion Sol, and Fizz.
Does Ahri counter Lux?
Ahri can have the upper hand against Lux thanks to her mobility and crowd control. That said, if Lux is able to hit her abilities more consistently, then she will be able to prevail over Ahri. It’s a skill matchup regardless but Ahri is slightly favored.
