Trundle counters in LoL – the top three picks
Trundle rose up as a great solo queue top lane pick thanks to his split pushing power. The implementation of turret plates and the gold granted to champions who take down turrets allowed him to become a menace. Against specific matchups, he can run over the enemies and take down structures at an alarming speed. In this list, we will be going over the best Trundle counters to help you deal with the champion.
If you’re fairly new to the game, check out our guide on how counter picks work in League of Legends. You will understand why counter picks are important, and how you need to take advantage of them to increase your win rate. Make sure to also understand how classes counter one another in LoL so you always know what to pick in each game.
Urgot – the evergreen counter
Urgot’s main strength lies in his W and the ability to deal more burst damage compared to Trundle. You won’t win early on but you can use your range to clear waves and slowly scale up. Once you get to two items, Trundle shouldn’t be able to win 1v1s anymore as you will execute him before he can chomp you to death. If he tries to split push, just clear waves with your passive as fast as you can.
Quinn – abusing the range advantage
Quinn is a known counter to melee top lane champions and Trundle is no exception. Harass him from level one and zone him out of the minion waves to deny farm and experience. If you’re able to space well and attack him while he tries to farm minions, you will be able to draw a substantial farm lead and potentially pick up kills. Use your ultimate to quickly roam around the map and snowball even more.
Kled – the scaling counter
Kled wasn’t considered a Trundle counter until Riot Games added the antiheal effect onto his kit. With that, he can now force trades with the enemy champion even during the landing phase. Build some armor early to make sure you can survive Trundle’s early game power, and then outscale him in the mid-to-late game.

Worst Trundle counters
Yorick – the worst matchup
Yorick is one of the worst matchups you can play into Trundle. This is because the troll will always prevail during trades and he can break out of the wall very quickly given his high attack speed. Avoid picking this champion when possible.
Rumble – a bad choice
Just like Trundle, Rumble is also quite strong in the early game thanks to his overheating passive. While it works against many champions, Trundle is one of the few picks that is even stronger. He will win most extended trades and he can easily chase you down with his W and the pillar.
How do you counter Trundle with the items?
When going up against Trundle, it’s recommended to stack a mix of armor and health. Below is a list of items to build you should consider, based on the class of champion you’re playing:
- Bruisers: Warden’s Mail, Frozen Heart
- AD assassins: Guardian’s Angel
- ADC champions: Guardian’s Angel
- AP champions: Zhonya’s Hourglass
- Tanks: Warden’s Mail, Frozen Heart
What Champion counters Trundle?
The three best counters are Urgot, Quinn, Kled. Other strong counters are Jax, Tryndamere, and Gnar.
Does Jax counter Trundle?
Jax is indeed a counter of Trundle. Thanks to his E ability, counter strike, he can negate a lot of Trundle’s auto attacks during every trade and greatly reduce his damage. Later in the game, Jax should also be able to match Trundle in the side lane and reduce his split pushing power.
