Viktor counters in LoL – the top three picks
Once considered a staple pick in the mid lane, Viktor lost some of its firepower throughout the years. His exceptional wave clearing and zoning capabilities were what made him a strong pick, especially in professional play. For that reason, it’s important to know who has the upper hand on him: find out which are the best Viktor counters in season 14.
If you’re fairly new to the game, check out our guide on how counter picks work in League of Legends. You will understand why counter picks are important, and how you need to take advantage of them to increase your win rate. Make sure to also understand how classes counter one another in LoL so you always know what to pick in each game.
Sylas – the meta counter
If Viktor is the type of champion who wants to play safely early on, Sylas is the exact opposite. He wants to the windows to get onto the enemy’s face and take him down. Against Viktor, Sylas has the advantage of having enough tools to close the gap and reach him: once that happens, there’s no way out for the mid lane mage.
Kassadin – the Sylas alternative
While Kassadin doesn’t have the same early game power as Sylas, he definitely has better scaling to match Viktor later on. Both champions don’t really have much lethal over the opponent which means that Kassadin will be able to scale up and reach his item spikes earlier on. As soon as he gets to level 16, Kassadin will be rift-walking all over Viktor.
Qiyana – the AD counter
If you don’t like AP champions, then Qiyana is what you want against Viktor. Just like Sylas, she has enough mobility and play-making potential to quickly assassinate the enemy as soon as he steps out of his safe zone. Qiyana can also take advantage of her roaming power to impact the map more compared to the enemy. Overall, this is a tough matchup for Viktor.

Worst Viktor counters
Orianna – can’t match the range
Orianna’s biggest weakness is her short range and against a champion like Viktor, she will feel the difference. Not only does the latter have a similar wave clearing but he has multiple tools to neutralize Orianna. It’s not a great matchup for Orianna and I generally discourage people from choosing her against Viktor.
Veigar – requires too much time to scale
While Veigar can scale infinitely and will deal more damage compared to Viktor later on, the time he requires to scale up is far too long. Viktor will be shoving waves consistently and there is no way for Veigar to gain control of the lane. On top of that, a great Viktor player will be able to time his ultimate and negate the enemy’s key abilities.
How do you counter Viktor with the items?
When going up against Viktor, it’s recommended to stack a mix of MR and HP. Below is a list of items to build you should consider, based on the class of champion you’re playing:
- Bruisers: Maw of Malmortius, Kaenic Rakoorn
- AD assassins: Maw of Malmortius
- ADC champions: Maw of Malmortius, Wit’s End
- AP champions: Banshee’s Veil
- Tanks: Kaenic Rakoorn, Spirit Visage, Force of Nature
What Champion counters Viktor?
The three best counters are Sylas, Kassadin, and Qiyana. Other strong counters are Jayce, Twisted Fate, and Talon.
Does Azir counter Viktor?
Viktor should have a major advantage over Azir. Both champions scale into the late game but Viktor traditionally will have better wave clear and priority during the laning phase, especially once he unlocks the Evolved version of his E. The two won’t likely kill each other but Viktor has more range and will spike faster if played correctly.
