G2 vs FNC – LEC Summer Playoffs

Both G2 and FNC have had a tight schedule this year so far, having represented the LEC at both MSI in China and the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Aside from a few weeks’ break, the two squads have been playing competitive matches basically nonstop.

G2 have definitely looked the better team this year, having finished in the top four at MSI and at the EWC. Fnatic, on the other hand, struggled internationally, losing to Team Liquid on both occasions. In the summer regular split, however, FNC looked in strong form, leading the standings until the very last week when they dropped three games in a row.

While it wasn’t a positive sign, the team quickly bounced back in the first rounds of playoffs, taking down GIANTX and SK in a convincing manner. G2 did the same, demolishing KC and BDS.

Series Breakdown

It’s still quite clear that G2 are definitely the favorites coming into this match so let’s not beat around the bush. Nonetheless, FNC is known for being a much more volatile team, both positive and negative. In this particular meta, the key element of a potential FNC upset will be none other than Razork: the Spanish jungler loves playing carry champions and we have seen how insane he can be on nasty AP junglers.

The other key is Noah: every time FNC loses, it’s mainly because he’s not performing close to his peak level. He had a slump at the EWC but has looked better in playoffs. I wonder whether he will be able to maintain that form going forward since it may potentially decide FNC’s destiny for Worlds 2024. And considering the tournament is in the EU, it will have a special meaning to LEC teams.
