Gen.G vs DK – LCK Summer Playoffs Preview
After T1 defeated KT in the first round, Gen.G chose DK as their opponent in Round 2 of the LCK Summer Playoffs. It’s one of the rare occasions where Gen.G chose the higher seed but it also goes to show the team is respecting T1 who has been ramping up in performance.
That said, DK is no slouch either and it will be a hard-fought series. While Gen.G are definitely the favorite considering the past record and their overall form throughout the season, a few elements can swing into DK’s favor. Let’s see what those elements are.
Series Breakdown
Based on the two lineups, DK is probably a bit at a disadvantage across the board, except the ADC position. I feel like Aiming has been the shining star of this lineup and he will continue to be so as long as his comfort picks are relevant in the meta. He’s probably the big key to a potential DK upset.
For Gen.G, instead, the focus will be on stabilizing their gameplay and not messing up with their drafting. Their only loss in the regular split came against KT, who was able to take advantage of a mid lane Smolder to win the late-game fights. DK’s main winning chance will likely come from something similar as well: a double-carry setup with Aiming and ShowMaker in position to deal lethal damage to the enemies.
Gen.G will have to find a way to break the opponent before it gets far into the late game and that will likely be Canyon and Chovy’s job: have those dictate the flow of the early-mid game by securing objective controls and pinch the enemies into an unrecoverable position, just like they did with HLE.
Overall, the series shouldn’t be that one-sided as DK might be able to get at least one game in the series. If it were to go to Silver Scrapes, it would be a worrying sign for Gen.G, the number one team in KR and a strong candidate to win Worlds 2024.
