What is League of Legends’ file size in 2025?
League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena video game with over 160 champions, each with a unique set of abilities. These champions compete on the map Summoners Rift, a decently sized arena that hosts each competitive match in League of Legends. LoL is not necessarily a graphically intense game, with players having the option to run the title off an integrated graphics card, which is on the lower end of the spectrum.
When writing this article, the file size for League of Legends is around 23GB. The initial download is around 9-10 GB, but you have to account for all the following updates and game files, which increase the total size.
Compared to the first years of League, the file size is bigger. That said, Riot has often looked to optimize the overall file size, despite adding new features like Vanguard, Riot’s anti-cheat software.
Will LoL get bigger?
As the game ages, the developers must continue to evolve it to work with modern machines. Champions continue to receive visual and gameplay updates as Riot pushes them toward modern standards. According to Riot’s support page, the devs recommend at least 16GB of storage space to download LoL. However, the file size is much larger than that. We would recommend around 30GB to 40 GB as it should give you enough space to operate the game comfortably and keep it up to date.
Furthermore, Riot has added new modes to the game over the past years. Two examples are League of Legends Swarm and Arena. Both are separate modes but add to the game’s file size. If League of Legends is your main game, you won’t have to worry about having enough storage space.
Most machines have more than enough space for the game, and no considerable update will bring the game over 50GB. The game has been out for over ten years, and we have yet to reach the 30GB mark.
