LoL Honor System – new update on our way
The LoL honor system has basically been the same for the past eight years. While the goal was to make it focus more on the teamwork aspect of the game, the system hasn’t yielded the intended results. According to Riot game designer Evan Humphreys, the goal is now back to rewarding good behavior instead of highlighting “how many games you’ve played and how well you’ve played in them.”
For this reason, the new updated system, which will launch in September, will allow you to honor more than one teammate. On top of it, you will also be able to honor the opponents, a feature removed with the update back in 2017, and something that many League players have always wanted to see return.
“We’re making changes to the system that let players identify and reward others who are truly honorable, not just cracked at the game,” said Humphreys, revealing that players will be able to get three Honors skins for Malzahar and Akshan and more “long term” plans as well.
Cracking down the bad behavior as well
With the Honor system looking to reward sportsmanlike behavior and strong performance, the game devs are equally looking to punish soft-inting and griefers. According to Riot, soft-inting can be defined as “Taking deliberate actions with the intent of reducing the team or a teammate’s likelihood of success.”
Going forward, Riot will be monitoring those behaviors more closely, as it hopes to turn down the increasing amount of people grieving the games. Additionally, other toxic actions such as AFK and chat abuse will also be looked into as Riot is “committed to expanding the effort to the best of their ability” in the battle with toxicity.
