LoL World Champs T1 Take Up Elon Musk Offer of Match Against Grok AI
T1 has thrown its hat into the ring after Elon Musk proposed a match pitting his AI system, Grok, against the world’s top League of Legends team. The idea quickly spread across the esports community, drawing responses from former pros, industry leaders, and Riot Games.
Musk has been increasingly vocal about his plans for AI-driven game development. Since unveiling Grok, he has suggested that artificial intelligence could be capable of building a complete video game in the next few years.
Could Grok Beat T1 League of Legends and Faker?
The world’s richest man now wants to see whether Grok can compete with, and potentially defeat, the best human teams in League of Legends.
To ensure some level of competitive balance, Musk outlined several restrictions for the AI. Grok, he said, would only be allowed to view the match through a camera feed with standard 20/20 vision, rather than benefiting from internal game data.
Its reaction time and mechanical input would also be capped at typical human limits. Musk argued that Grok 5’s ability to “play any game” by reading instructions and experimenting made the challenge reasonable.
The proposal immediately attracted reactions from esports veterans across different titles including League and StarCraft, and T1 themselves – just weeks after their World Championship win over KT Rolster – said they’re up for it.
Skeptics quickly chimed in too. Former LCS star Joedat “Voyboy” Esfahani argued that Grok wouldn’t come close to defeating a top human team by next year, citing the complexity, coordination, and contextual decision-making demanded at the highest level of play.
This is definitely not possible by 2026. You wouldn't even be able to beat an LCS team, much less Faker and the boys. League has far too many variables / interaction & game knowledge context / legit team coordination required to win at the highest level 🥱

Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng echoed that sentiment with a bold personal wager, stating he would shave his head if Grok managed to beat him.
T1 Take Musk’s Offer
Despite the doubts, T1 responded with confidence. The organization replied directly to Musk’s post, sharing a GIF of Faker alongside the message: “We are ready. Are you?”

Nothing has been finalized, but if the match comes together, it has the potential to become one of the most interesting League of Legends matches we’ve ever seen – especially if the unthinkable happens.
